When I was asked to review a gel to help scars, I was very interested as unfortunately I have quite a few scars over my body due to various operations. I recently had hand surgery and hoped I could use this gel as I have a very long scar that is very noticeable.
The gel turned up in a beautiful sturdy box with a layer of tissue paper, included with the gel was various instructions with a full explanation of what I had to do.
Kelo-Cote UV Scar Gel is available in two sizes: 6g for scars up to 7.5cm long and 15g for scars between 7.5cm and 10cm long. I received the 15g tube.
The scar gel can be used under make-up. It is waterproof with 24-hour protection. It is suitable for children as well as adults. I have the UV gel so it gives SPF 30 protection from the sun. It helps to soften and flatten scars. I have a very old scar that is very lumpy and raised, so this was ideal to try the gel on. It also reduces redness and relieves itching, this is what my new scar feels like so another place I can use it.
A week before I received the gel I had my stitches out and I used it 2 days after receipt, all of my wound had healed by then as you must not use it on open wounds. I only needed a small amount, it is applied twice a day 30 minutes before you go outside in the sun, remember when there is no sun you still can get damage from UV. Also scars lack melanin so if they are exposed it can cause your scar to become bigger, harder and darker. You must also apply sunscreen to the scar every 2 hours. You do not need to rub it into the skin as within 5 minutes it dries naturally.
There is a recommended minimum treatment period which is 60-90 days you will not see much improvement before then. The problem I had with this is that I was given 90 days to review the product. So I cannot honestly say it will fully work. But what I will say is that already my scar is feeling softer and not so raised, so I do intend to carry on using it. The other scar I tried it on needs a lot more time before I can decide if it works as it is an older scar.
The way the gel works is by providing a breathable and waterproof cover over the scar which acts like an extra layer of skin. It is invisible so cannot be seen. It also hydrates and protects the area allowing collagen to improve the appearance of your scar.
These products are ideal to use for burns, but you must allow the skin to heal over first.

https://kelo-cote.co.uk is the website that contains all the information about the product and it really is very interesting and extensive. Scars change people’s lives it can make them less confident this treatment is worth trying to see if it works for you.
I am awarding this product 4/5 stars the only reason for this is due to the time span I have had to review it.
