I'm a huge fan of conveyor belt eating… No wasted time reading a menu not understanding what anything is, no wondering what that is on the table next to you or regretting your order…  Just arrive, take a seat, spot something that looks delicious and grab it.

It’s great if you’re eating with kids too as its small portions and you can eat between cries, spills and nappy changes. But for a Friday night date night I wouldn't usually think conveyor belt style eating has the romance or appropriate "atmosphere".

But this is no ordinary conveyor belt restaurant that you may have come across in an airport, this is classy, comfortable, nicely decorated and has a trendy yet casual atmosphere. There were some families, single diners and couples alike. No one looked out of place or uncomfortable. We took our stools and got the warmest smiliest welcome and an offer of help and explanation. On a couple of occasions we looked inquisitively at a passing dish and a discrete assistant would quickly be at your side to unravel the Japanese mystery or make a recommendation.

The warm sake flowed and we soon had a stack of plates worthy of any department store crockery section. We've been fortunate to eat some exceptional Japanese food in Asia and without a shadow of a doubt this is the finest most authentic Japanese food I've tasted in Europe. Specials on the night were miso black cod and beetroot salmon. The only word is WOW!

Everything was exquisitely presented, fresh, tasty and even felt healthy and good for you. Even the heavenly chocolate mouse and raspberry yoghurt. I left feeling cleansed, virtuous and satisfied.

K10 is in the heart of London and although definitely not well positioned for Friday date night passers-by, I can imagine that for a lunch break bite or a commuters early dinner on the way home the location is ideal. But it’s worth the detour for the quality and authentic food, exceptional service and a touch of the something different.
