My family and I were delighted to be chosen to review this visitor attraction based in beautiful countryside in Livingston, West Lothian.

The centre houses farm buildings and a mill which are many centuries old. The whole attraction is surrounded by beautiful countryside and adjacent to a river giving lots of space for everyone to enjoy. We visited during their Halloween activities and I noticed throughout the year many other themed activities take place. The whole area was transformed with spooky Halloween decorations… really adding to the atmosphere. There is an abundance of activities for the whole family to enjoy and for all ages. The entrance fee allows entry to the whole centre, only paying extra for tractor rides which run hourly… but only 50p per person… an additional fee is paid for an indoor soft play area also.

Our girls are 7 and 11 years and they thoroughly enjoyed all the outdoor activities… including trampolines, go karts, covered archaeological sand play area,  jumping bean, the shale indoor play which is for over 5 years. There is also a fully refurbished cafe offering homemade food which was very reasonably priced and very tasty. During summer months there are many picnic areas available. Also can’t forget to mention the fabulous shale oil museum. Telling the local story with lots of hands on activities for the girls to enjoy. Although we were there during the quieter season we still spent many hours enjoying seeing the animals, playing, walking, etc…Due to the size of the whole centre even at the height of their season there will still be plenty of space and things to do.

And the centre staff certainly still offer lots to see and do to keep every amused even in horrible weather.

We really had a fabulous day here and with its close proximity to the motorway it makes it easily accessible to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

It also has easy access for anyone with disabilities.

We would highly recommend this wee gem of a place. It kept our girls happy for hours and we loved all the spooky goings on for Halloween.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
