Now, here’s what lovely Gavin Foley of Flexi Jobs had to say…

How and when did your business start?

Having years of high-level expertise in recruitment, I realised there was a problem that needed solving—Inclusive hiring.

From addressing ageism to providing opportunities for women needing menopause support, veterans seeking stability, and individuals with physical or non-physical disabilities, I wanted to create a space where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued when looking for work.

I also personally experienced unemployment and was signed onto Job Seeker’s Allowance myself. I know how that feels, and the support I received during that time was critical to my journey. Now, I’m in a position to pay it forward and help others.

That’s how Flexi Jobs was born!

What have been your biggest challenges in business?

Failure becomes success—it’s okay to fail. I’ve done it many times, but each time I’ve learned and grown stronger. These learnings have shaped Flexi Jobs into what it is today, helping thousands of people find opportunities. The hardest part was convincing employers to embrace inclusive hiring practices, but seeing the impact it makes is worth the challenge.

What tips would you give to anyone thinking about starting their own business?

  1. It’s a mindset thing—don’t think about why you can’t, think about why you can. Sometimes, the only thing in your way is yourself.
  2. Start with the “why.” Knowing what you want to do and why you want to do it makes figuring out the “how” so much easier.
  3. Starting is the hardest part, but there’s no reason not to try. Failure is part of the journey; embrace it, learn from it, and keep going.

What is the best thing about being in Maddy Alexander-Grout’s Invisible to Influential membership?

Connecting with like-minded people who are in the same boat is invaluable. The value far outweighs the small cost, and the support from the group is incredible.

Maddy herself is always available to answer even the silliest of questions, and the knowledge shared has already made a huge difference in my business.

Have there been any recent wins that you would like to tell us about?

Our lead magnet, The Inclusive Recruitment Advantage, is doing really well!

We’re also running a pilot with the DWP across Derbyshire to help job seekers find work through Flexi Jobs, impacting hundreds of lives.

On top of that, joining Maddy’s group has led to some fantastic PR wins—I’ll be featured online by several news outlets, including The Sun Online on Christmas/Boxing Day. Keep an eye out for that!

Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to tell us about?

Yes! We’re working on even more tools and resources for job seekers, including CV templates, guides, cheat sheets, and more.

For employers, we’re introducing our Founding Member Offer:

  • Unlimited job posts
  • Featured and pinned job listings
  • Access to our resume database for candidates over 50

Which activities do you enjoy doing in your leisure time?

I have two amazing children under 10. My daughter loves the cinema and ice skating, so we enjoy spending time together doing those things. My son is football mad, and I’m the manager of his under-7s football team—a role that tests my patience but is incredibly rewarding. As a family, we also enjoy watching our local football team play.
