How and when did your business start?
I’m also the co-founder of Hampshire Apiaries (we have 12 beehives and make & sell natural products from the hives as well as our yummy honey!)
I started my business in June 2018 after 23 years working in sales admin roles, setting up as a Virtual Assistant initially, which I grew and after a few years led me to certifying as an Online Business Consultant & Energy Clearing Practitioner. I’m also a Certified Meditation and Breathwork Practitioner and combine all these modalities in the work I do with my clients.
What have been your biggest challenges in business?
My biggest challenges at the beginning were self doubt and lacking in confidence. I have also succumbed to ‘shiny object syndrome’ on many occasions, finally realising that rather than buying all the courses and programmes I just needed to implement the ‘stuff’!
What tips would you give to anyone thinking about starting their own business?
For anyone starting their own business, I would say to go for it. Particularly if you aren’t enjoying your employed job (which I wasn’t at the time). The freedom you get from being your own boss can’t be beaten and having the choice to work with who you want doing what you choose to do is something I am grateful for. Having a good, supportive network around you is crucial as it can be a lonely road at times and having people that you can turn to during the good times and bad, will keep you on the right track. And most importantly, be yourself. You won’t get anywhere trying to be someone you’re not, the right people will come into your world because of who you are.
What is the best thing about being in Maddy Alexander-Grout’s Invisible to Influential membership?
I’ve only recently joined Maddy’s membership although I have known Maddy since almost the beginning of starting my business, we are in a local business group together. Already I feel it’s a welcoming space and Maddy is so inspiring, I feel it’s definitely one of the better choices I’ve made when it comes to signing up for all these shiny objects!
Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to tell us about?
I’m excited about a collaboration programme starting in January, where myself and an amazing business owner, Nina Mistry, are hosting a 4 week done-together course ‘Synergy’ where we will help, support and guide people to create and put together a lead magnet for their business. We both know that tech can get in people’s way when it comes to lead magnet creation. Nina is a tech whizz so she will work through the steps needed, we will be holding people accountable to getting the work done and I will be hosting regular energy clearing sessions to clear any of those blocks that can get in the way of people’s creative flow.
Which activities do you enjoy doing in your leisure time?
In my free time, I love to get out in nature – it’s my happy place. Either by the sea, in woodlands and forests or rambling in the countryside. I’m hoping to tackle The Three Peaks next year with my son, so watch this space!
