Fron Farm Country Holiday Park, Flintshire, Review

DISCLOSURE – WE WERE A FULL PAYING CUSTOMER. I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW BECAUSE FRON FARM IS THE MOST AMAZING CAMPSITE I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS FOR SO MANY REASONS.

Having grown up caravanning with my family as a teenager I was over the moon to have the opportunity last summer to get back into caravanning when a family member purchased a touring caravan. I think sometimes you don’t know how much you have missed something until you go without it and then experience it again. This last year has been the most special experience for myself and little humans.

Well stocked shop – we purchased the table tennis rackets and balls set

At half term week my little humans and I were lucky enough to spend a few nights at Fron Farm Country Caravan Park near Mold in Flintshire. Before our stay I read the fascinating history of Fron Farm on their website here: Fron Farm Country Holiday Park The Farm. We found Fron Farm easily by typing the postcode into the sat nav. Upon arrival we parked in the car park spaces near reception. There were plenty available. The reception/shop itself fantastic and is stocked with a good number of products including some of the camping and caravanning essentials like toilet chemical and tent repair tape as well as Fron Farm’s own range of meat which includes burgers. The farm is family run and the owners are professional and approachable. Check in was quick and efficient. We were then given details of the barrier code which allowed us entry onto the campsite. The generous sized pitch made life so easy for myself which I was relieved about as I have mobility issues and disabilities. There was a drain so gone were the days of using a waste carrier and emptying it frequently. There was a tap on the pitch and so I just attached the aquaroll tap kit and did not have to carry or roll the aquaroll itself to and from the tap. The electricity system was easy to plug into. The whole campsite was so well presented and clearly diligently looked after. The views from Fron Farm were breathtaking. I could look at those views every day!

Well stocked shop – this is the area with useful camping/caravanning products

Facilities at Fron Farm include (info taken from their website):
* reception and shop
* 2 toilet shower blocks with free hot showers (facilities kept really clean and well stocked with toilet roll etc)
* Complimentary wifi – availability not guaranteed
* Washer/dryer coin op facilities
* 2 chemical disposal points (this was very easy to use)
* 2 children’s play parks (my little humans spent so much time enjoying them)
* disabled facilities (in my view they were excellent)
* baby changing area
* frequently located water points (I would agree with this, having had quite a walk in the past elsewhere to get water)
* 2 hot water dishwashing areas (clean and well kept area)
* owners live on site and park warden on site 24 hours (as a single mum staying without another adult there this along with the excellent security measures made me feel so safe)
* Schedule of events for Summer Saturday season (this looks amazing and the events take place in a lovely venue)
*pitches on well drained grass (I would definitely agree that the grass areas adjacent to the hardstanding on the pitch I was on were well drained)
*dog friendly (In my view, the dog exercise area looks fantastic)

Fron Farm’s own range of meat

Mold, the closest town, is approximately 10 minutes away by car. There are several supermarkets there. The local nature reserve which is called Coed Y Felin is a short walk away. The campsite caters so well for families. As well as the 2 play parks there is a games room and animal viewing areas. During our stay we saw bulls and sheep in a spacious field, hens in a well kept good sized enclosure and pigmy goats in a good sized barn. The pigmy goats were the highlight for my little humans. We really enjoyed purchasing goat feed from the on site shop and feeding them. They were so friendly and their antics funny to watch. The games room was great. We purchased a set containing table tennis bats and balls from the on site shop and enjoyed a fun game of table tennis there. It even has a pool table and a couple of sofas and is a great hangout for children. All of the animals were clearly so happy and well looked after. Whilst we didn’t use the recreation field, it looked fantastic and had football nets. There is a lovely seating area opposite the reception/shop.

We were delighted to stay when an organised Halloween event was on. On the Saturday of our stay we purchased hot dogs and a cake from the onsite shop. 4 hot dogs and a cake cost around £11.00 which I think is fantastic value. Whilst I did not attend the organised activities myself (my little humans didn’t stay until day 2 of my stay) those who did attend seemed to enjoy the dark walk, pumpkin carving, fancy dress, raffle and fireworks display. I thought the short duration of the fireworks display was so thoughtful of the organisers. I was delighted to be able to watch the spectacular looking fireworks from the comfort of my family’s caravan.

On the Sunday of our stay I purchased a cooked breakfast from the on site shop. It tasted amazing and was reasonably priced. For those whose preference is not a full cooked breakfast, there were other lower cost options available. Speaking of reception and the shop, opening hours were 9am – 5pm Saturday, 9am – 1pm Sunday and 9am – 11am Monday to Thursday of our stay. Staff in the shop were knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to purchase, amongst other things, bread, bacon, oven chips and treats for my little humans.

There are some seasonal pitches on the campsite. Info here: Seasonal Pitches North Wales (fronfarmcountryholidaypark.co.uk). I think that the 2023 price of £2,000 for a grass pitch and £2,200 for a hardstanding one represent good value, as does the winter storage cost of £200. The way I look at it, you can pay £700-800 for a week staying in a static caravan on a holiday park somewhere. I know this as before my family purchased the touring caravan back in 2022 I looked at the cost of taking my little humans on holiday. For just over double that amount you can enjoy a seasonal pitch as much as you like all season for 7 months between April and October. I obviously do not know if there is any availability for the 2024 season, but in my opinion anyone able to secure a seasonal pitch at Fron Farm is very lucky. Everyone who I came across at Fron Farm was friendly. My little humans thoroughly enjoyed their time walking around or playing in the play parks.

There are sometimes holiday homes available to buy. Info here: Holiday Homes North Wales – Fron Farm Country Holiday Park. The areas where the static caravans are look amazing.

Whilst I stayed on site for the whole duration of my stay, there is so much to do in the local area and slightly further afield. There is some useful information here: What To Do In North Wales (fronfarmcountryholidaypark.co.uk)

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this campsite to others. It was my best experience of a campsite/holiday park to date. Finally a message to the owners of the campsite. Thank you so much for opening up your wonderful home to others in the way you do. It truly makes such a difference to people’s lives.
