Herby Hog is a British based company who creates seasonings and gravies. All their products are made in the UK and are all meat free and plant based. Herby Hog’s aim is to create plant based seasonings with amazing meaty flavours to add taste and flavour to vegetarian and vegan dishes. They can be used to coat, rub, sprinkle or stir into your food.

The seasonings can be bought in single 60g packets or purchased as part of a bundle. Each packet is roughly 12 servings. There are many flavours to choose from including maple bacon and spicy chorizo. We tried out the sausage and sage flavour. Herby Hog also makes gravies. These also come in packets which are 75g and make approximately 18 servings. We were sent smoky bacon gravy to try.

Firstly, the sausage and sage seasoning. I used this by adding a tablespoon into my homemade veggie burger recipe. A packet will certainly go quite a long way as the one spoonful was all that was needed to be able to taste it in the burgers. All the family really enjoyed the added flavour. The sage was easily detectable but we didn’t get much of a sausage flavour to it. However it was very nice so we will be using it again in other dishes. The packet suggests casseroles, pasta sauces and stuffing mixes. Considering how little is needed I think this is reasonable value for money at £2.99 a pack.

Next, we tried the smoky bacon flavour gravy. The packet instructions said to mix the water and four tablespoons in a pan, bring to the boil then simmer for two minutes until thickened. Unfortunately despite following the instructions, the gravy did not thicken and eventually I added a little cornflour before serving so this was a little disappointing. However we were all really amazed how much this tasted like bacon. It was delicious poured onto our roast dinner. Even our eldest son who is often a fussy eater asked for more! The gravy mixes are also £2.99 and I would say are worth the money.

With Summer coming, Herby Hog products seem just perfect to add some flair to dishes when we get all the family round for a barbecue and fun in the garden.

Herby Hogs have more products coming soon so hopefully there will be more gravy varieties to try!
