I was sent some Headu Montessori Baby Flashcards to review.  Montessori is a method of teaching that uses a child’s interest in hands on play and activity to learn, it is a method I use a lot with my children particularly over lockdown as if they can learn whilst having fun the whole process is much more enjoyable for everyone involved and the child is more keen to participate.

The Headu baby Flashcards are a fun resource aimed at 1-3 year olds to support babies with their listening and speaking. The brightly coloured box contains 12 Flashcards and 12 coloured shape inserts. Each a card has a simple ‘first word’ that tiny humans are likely to want to learn such as ‘apple’ or ‘tractor’ and a picture of the item on a insert as well as the main card that slots in- sort of like a jigsaw.

I gifted the flash cards to my nephew who has just turned 1 and he loved looking at them and matching them up with me, we used them to introduce words and although he hasn’t got many yet it’s clear he recognises the pictures and was able to point at them when asked ‘can you show me the cat?’ for example or ‘what noise does a cow make?’, we managed a few before concentration lapsed and the cards were being shuffled around instead nonetheless he was still enjoying them immensely playing his own sort of game. They were a great way of talking about various items and increasing familiarity to everyday objects and adding to his vocabulary. I can see how the use of the cards would change as he gets older as is able to play more independently with them. There are so many play opportunities and conversations to be had with these Flashcards benefitting both listening and speech as well as motor skills.

The quality of the Flashcards is excellent, the card is sturdy and could withstand a fair amount of rough handling as is needed with any toddler toys. I like that the cards fit neatly into the small box and are not over packaged so can easily be stored or put in the changing bag for a game on the go.

These cards would be a fab and inexpensive Christmas gift for little ones and just the right size for a stocking filler.

The Flashcards are available to buy from various retailers online RRP:£13.99 however the cheapest I could find were on sale from toystreet.co.uk for £9.92 (price was correct at the time of writing the review) this is in my opinion great value for a gift that will likely be enjoyed by any little one with no exceptions, an easy win!

I took some time to take a look at some of the other Headu toys and was surprised at the large range of fun educational games they make as they were not a company I have heard of before, I will definitely be looking to them for a few Christmas presents this year and would not hesitate to recommend.
