Hape Playful Piano Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot

Over the past couple of years, my twins and I have been lucky enough to try out several Hape Toys, including a dolls house, marble runs, a music set, puzzles etc. This time we were sent a stunning red piano, the Hape Playful Piano which is made from birch and maple wood finished in red..

It arrived well packaged and therefore in perfect condition. The instruction book was easy to follow. It is the perfect size for little people, having just 18 keys and measuring approx. H33, W25, D30cm. 7 keys are black and the rest are white. There’s even a handy strip to show the various musical notes. Once the strip was in place, we were ready to go. The instructions even offer advice as to how to position your hand. We tried out the various songs in the instruction book:

The Farmer in the Dell
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – this one is my favourite
I’m a Little Teapot
The Wheels On The Bus
Mary Had a Little Lamb

We had great fun making up our own songs. Even the adults got involved. I think my efforts were worse than when I was a small child. That just added to the fun. In my view, learning a musical instrument is an important part of childhood. I can remember playing the recorder, then the guitar and the flute. Music can be as wide as your imagination.

I must admit, whilst all Hape Toys I have come across have been robust and stood up to the test of 6-year-old twins, this item has to be the most stunning product I have ever been sent. The Hape lettering on the piano itself really suits the style of the piano.

The Hape Happy Piano would make a lovely Christmas gift idea. It would also be perfect to add to the musical instrument collection of any nursery or preschool.

Suitable for age 3+.
