Christmas is on its way and if you haven’t already then it is time to start thinking about presents! Whenever I am buying gifts for children, I love finding them something which is fun, keeps the child occupied and also helps them learn. GOT IT! is great for all three of those criteria although it will depend on how good they are at problem solving as to how long it keeps them occupied!

The game arrived in a 27cm x 27cm box, is suitable for children over the age of 8 and can be played between 2 to 6 people. I loved that GOT IT! is very easy to understand and to set up, making it perfect to play when you don’t have much time. The box consisted of 6 x code breaking ‘crib sheets’ containing the details of all eight codes which is great as I first thought that I would be expected to know all the codes! It also consists of 60 double sided challenge cards (and each card has 16 challenges, 8 on each side, which means you don’t have to worry about repeating the same challenge card for a very long time) an eight sided dice, a card stand and an instruction booklet. The instruction booklet not only explains how to set up and play the game (which is super simple) but also goes into detail about the origin and history of some of the codes which is a really nice touch.

In the rule book it explains that a round consists of one challenge and that the first person to win three rounds (by being the first to correctly solve the challenge) wins the game. Now it obviously depends on the age of the people playing but three rounds only took us about 15minutes and I think the more you play the game and therefore understand the codes then the less time it will take. We quickly changed the rules so that it was the first person to win six rounds as otherwise the game was over far too quickly. Having said that it also does depend on the code – I found the morse code challenges almost impossible as all the dots and dashes started to look the same whereas I thought I was pretty quick at the hieroglyphics and aristotelica icons.

I only played the game with one other player and it worked brilliantly with putting the challenge card on the card stand between us but a downside of playing it with more people might be that the code on the card would need to be read by everyone and as it is small they would be quite hard to read from a distance.

The game costs £19.99 which is maybe slightly expensive for something that you would only play in short time periods but I was impressed with the quality of the crib sheets and challenge cards as well as the variety of codes used.

If you are looking for a lovely original game to play for anyone who is competitive, loves problem solving and won’t want something which will take up the whole afternoon, as a Christmas present then this game is for you!
