Located in the heart of Windsor, opposite Windsor Castle, the quirky little building that is ‘Fudge Kitchen’ stands. Although small in its appearance amongst the larger shops, it certainly can’t be missed! With its enthusiastic staff (perhaps it’s the sugar rush?!) dressed in old fashioned, traditional clothing, you are encouraged to step inside and try some free samples to experience ‘proper fudge’! (which is gluten and butter free!)

Remember to take lots of change for the carpark as it’s very expensive! (£4.50 an hour!)

As you step inside for your workshop you are welcomed with open arms and shown through to the ‘kitchen’ where the magic happens. You are provided with an apron and a straw hat (pre-worn to the fashion conscious, the hats aren’t exactly flattering!) And then away you go!

All throughout the experience, each step is explained to you and you feel like you have taken a step back in time!

You are provided with samples of different flavours of fudge (snickers was my favourite) throughout your visit, which is a highlight!

You are given a chance to stir the fudge in the huge copper pot (which unfortunately we didn’t get to see made from scratch due to the fact the pot needed to be heated beforehand which was a shame).

Once the mixture is ready, it is poured onto the marble slab and you wait (and wait and wait) which is the only downside as you have to wait for about 15 minutes for it to crystalize and set. Don’t worry though as you will be kept entertained with interesting ‘fudge facts’ and more free samples!

Once the fudge has set, the fun begins. You are given a scraper and shown how to ‘fold’ the fudge. (At this point I realised why I had the apron! It gets rather sticky!) As you fold you notice the colour change and the texture chance and it becomes a lot harder to work and certainly challenges the arm muscles!

You are then shown how the ‘cut’ the fudge into pieces and ‘hey presto’ you have fudge!

With our personal experience, I felt a little uncomfortable to find members of the public walking in and out and watching us. Also interrupting and asking questions, which although I didn’t mind, I feel if you pay for the workshop then you should have a little privacy.

At the end of the experience you are taken back into the shop and you get to choose 5 pieces of fudge to take home with you and also you get pieces of the fudge you made!

The fudge itself is creamy and very moreish! So be warned that it won’t be good for the waistline!

We would give Fudge Kitchen 4/5 but it’s definitely something I would recommend.

Rating: 4/5

A fudge making experience costs £50 for 2 people.
