It’s that time of year again, time to get the tent back out again and check it over for Pony Club Camp, so it was the perfect opportunity to put some of Granger’s outdoor products to the test.

Granger’s are one of the leading brands in waterproofing and water repellent products, with a huge range for all types of outdoor gear.  I already own & use one of their older branded sprays, the G max universal footwear proofer, which is really easy to use, and I was hoping the new range would be as simple, especially as the weather has been somewhat unpredictable lately!

I was sent two items to review the Tent & Gear Care Kit, which is a boxed set, and a bottle of Footwear Repel Plus.  The Tent & Gear Care Kit contains three products, Tent & Gear Cleaner, Tent & Gear Repel and a green expanding sponge which comes shrink wrapped into a flat package.  Don’t be put off by the name, these products are not just for tents, but any fabrics that you need a water repellent finish on.  We used on our tent to prep for camp, but also used them for our caravan awning, rucksacks, deck chairs and even our horse rugs.  Both cleaner & repellent are great multi use products.

The Tent & Gear Cleaner dilutes to provide enough wash to make 25 litres of wash, so is great value for money, just using two full caps gives you a large bucket of wash ready to use.  You then just apply with the sponge provided and rinse off to both eliminate odours and maintain water repellency.  To then enhance the reproofing process further, use the Tent & Gear repel, this comes in an easy to use 500ml spray bottle.  The spray needs to be used on wet/damp fabric if possible, so I just gave the tent and awning a quick spray with the hosepipe, the rugs and rucksacks I just wet with a sponge. You then shake the bottle, spray all over your fabric from approximately 6 inches away and that’s it.  Just wipe off any noticeable excess and leave to dry naturally.  The bottle covers around 5-6m2 of fabric so is easily enough for a tent or several smaller items.

The Footwear Repel Plus also comes in a handy spray bottle this time containing 275ml of re-proofing spray, it is suitable for pretty much any material, leather, nubuck or Gore-Tex.  Similarly, it is best applied on damp footwear, which certainly hasn’t been a problem for me with the amount of rain we have had lately.  My last walk I came back with wet feet, so I got the spray out and applied immediately after cleaning down my boots.  It makes the material slightly darker when its applied, so you can see where it’s been, but then it dries clear.  I left it to dry overnight, but it does dry much quicker than that, and used the boots again the next day.  The spray worked well, providing a good level of proofing and my feet were not wet at all, such a useful piece of kit to keep in the cupboard.  We walk and ride a lot, so spend a lot of time in wet muddy conditions so will find this a godsend over the winter months.

With the revised branding from my original Granger’s Footwear Proofer, comes new & updated bottles made using Ocean waste plastic which are 100% recyclable, and the products are all water based so environmentally responsible. Just another tick in the box for an already great product.

The Granger’s products are great for those with busy lives, easy to apply, quick to use and most importantly can be used on a wide variety of materials, you don’t need a leather proofer and a separate Gore-Tex or fabric proofer cluttering up your cupboards, you only need one multi use spray, suitable for everything.
