We received the Cross Orange FirstBIKE balance bike during the week so decided that we would venture out to the local park over the weekend for a test drive. My 2½ year old boy was beyond excited to see his new bike (which was orange – his current favourite colour) and proceeded to tell everyone who was willing to listen about his new bike.
The bike arrived in a great big box and after opening it we were surprised to see that it was already assembled – definitely a plus point for our family! The instruction manual was also included in case we have to disassemble and reassemble it.
The bike itself looks amazing and very sturdy. It is surprisingly very lightweight but does not feel flimsy. The tyres were a stand out feature for me… they had great grip which meant that when it was used outdoors I felt that my boy would be safe on it. The adjustable seat was easy to use and a very simple turning mechanism meant that we could adjust the seat as many times as we needed in order to get it at the correct height for my son (he is 3 feet 4 inches).
When we got to the park we had to let my son get on the bike as he could no longer contain his excitement. We were pleasantly surprised as to how easy this was for him to get to grips with. He was initially confused as to where to hold the bike on the handle bars but after we showed him he was off! He thoroughly enjoyed riding on his bike and as he got more adventurous he was wheeling down slopes squealing with joy! (The parents were not squealing with joy as much as in fright as to how fast he was going!).
The bike is great overall, sturdy and robust build and easy to use. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a first bike for their child! It’s perfect for self-confidence, balance and motor skills.
