I was over the moon to be able to review The New Adventures Of Peter Pan at The Albert Halls in Bolton last night.  The venue is easy to find, very accessible by public transport and close to several parking options.  Upon arrival we went upstairs and sat in the lovely bar area until 6pm when we found our seats ready for the performance to start.  The performance had me gripped from the start.  It was exciting and hilarious with a bit of pantomime innuendo mixed in.

If I had to pick a favourite, it would be Lloyd Warby who played Smee.  He was full of energy and absolutely fantastic with the audience.  A close second for me is Kivan Dene who played Captain Hook in a hilarious manner.  My sons and I loved joining in with the booing that happened whenever Captain Hook was around.

Calum O’Rourke was amazing as Peter Pan.  He brought such a lovely energy to the role.  Megan Edmondson was wonderful as Tinks, as was Chelsey Morgan as Wendy.  Ella Heywood changed flawlessly between the roles of Miss Darling and Persil.  I must now mention the ensemble and the chorus. They were all wonderful and had me mesmerised.  I couldn’t pick out a favourite amongst them.  They were all amazing.

The costumes were stunning, the lighting fantastic and the set changes done so cleverly. The song choices fitted the performance perfectly.  My sons and I loved the songs Defying Gravity and Golden being included in the performance.

One of the standout moments for me was The Twelve Days At sea as Smee, Captain Hook and the two other pirates had me in stitches because of their hilarious antics and the audience participation.   Another was where Smee was trying to repeat something that Captain Hook said and Smee’s attempts had me laughing so much and there were moments when I was sat there wondering if something was about to happen.  The he/she’s behind you moments were so cleverly done.  My sons were very amused by a part of the show where clips from several songs were used in a hilarious way with mentions of a certain tech item that many of us probably have in our households.

I enjoyed act one just as much as act two.  The interval was the perfect length to pop and buy some snacks and to use the toilet facilities.

There was a lift as well as stairs to reach the 2nd floor where the performance was.  Toilet facilities were clean and well looked after.  There were two accessible toilets on that floor.   Staff were approachable, professional and helpful.

We had such an enjoyable evening.  I would go back and watch that performance over and over if I could and I would definitely recommend it to others.  I think it is such a lovely way as a family to make festive memories.

Rating: 5/5 and I would give it more if I could
