Lost My Name Book Review

The Little Boy Who Lost His Name

Reviewed by Linda Curtain

Having recently seen these Lost My Name books presented on ‘The Dragons Den’, I was delighted to be asked to do a review on them. I decided to have the book personalised for my grandson Finley aged 4 who has recently started school so can recognise his name.

The idea for these books came from a small group of dads and an uncle who decided to try to make bed-time stories a bit more magical and they certainly have achieved that!

Each book is individually created around your chosen name and tells the story of a young child whose name disappears from his bedroom door one night and his adventures to reclaim all the letters to reassemble his name. Throughout the book, the little boy encounters various characters each beginning with the next letter in his name. On his adventure, Finley met a Frog (his favourite because it was green!), an Imp, a Nabarlek (pygmy rock-wallaby), a Lion, an Eagle and a Yeti. Each of the characters were beautifully illustrated throughout the story.

The quality of the paper was excellent and well able to cope with ‘little hands’! An individual inscription to the child inside the front cover gave a very personalised touch.

Finley loved sharing the story and seeking out the next letter to create his name. My only criticism would be that the letters for the name were all presented in upper case lettering whereas young children at school are taught to read and write in lower case so this may cause a problem with word recognition.

It was however an extremely enjoyable book and one that will no doubt be read numerous times.
