Browns Milton Keynes Review
Browns

We visited Browns on a busy Halloween Evening. It is advertised as a bar and brasserie and is situated in the hotel area of Central Milton Keynes where there are a number of modern bars, clubs and restaurants as well as some shops and 2 large hotels. Car parking was quite difficult and we ended up parking a fair walk from the restaurant.
On arrival there was a queue of people waiting. When our time came we were welcomed and immediately shown to our table and offered a choice of two tables. Our first impression that dining at Browns is as much about image as it is about the food. On the evening we visited it seemed quite a young clientele although there were one or two older customers (including ourselves) and a few families with teenage children. The restaurant has a unique atmosphere of both modern and classic and although there was piped music you could hardly notice it once at your table.
On the table was the drinks menu which included a variety of cocktails, mock tails and wines and beers. One of us tried a diamond fizz mock tail while the other had a glass of wine. Both were served quite quickly. When asked for a glass of water this was brought to us after a short wait.
The main menu reflected the décor and atmosphere of there being a combination of modern and classic meals. There was a reasonable and unusual choice of starter and the soup of the day was tomato and bean. One of us tried the avocado and crab stack which was very tasty and the other had the seared tuna which was tasty but tiny. There were several other starters to choose from.
There was a choice of main courses from fish, pasta and salads to classing grills and steaks. The evening we visited was Lobster Night and there was a choice of 3 lobster dishes to choose if you fancied. We both went for the burgers, one of had the classic burger and the other a lamb feta and mint burger. We chose burgers not because there was little else on the menu we fancied but because we had heard that Browns do good burgers. We were not disappointed either and both were served in an appetising manner with salad and seasoned chips with house ketchup, mayonnaise and dill pickle. Looking around the dining area the meat pies proved popular as did the lobster.
The dessert menu was equally appetizing and one of us chose the fruit salad which was in a honey syrup and served with frozen yoghurt. The other had a trio of crème brulee which was served in 3 small cups. Both rounded off a most enjoyable meal.
The service was friendly but hardly quick. We waited almost an hour for our starter but did receive the occasional apology for the delay from Sarah our waitress. It was later explained to us that the Sioux Chef had suffered a serious cut to his finger and had to be sent home which left a less experienced chef in charge. We did not wait quite so long for the other courses.
All in all it was a very pleasant and enjoyable dining experience and we will certainly return again in the not too distant future.
