Interview with Danny Mac
(Mark “Dodger” Savage)
Interview by Jackie Page-Streeton
This week on Hollyoaks evil Will’s story line reaches its climax as Will learns that he has inherited Anna’s mansion where he carries out his ultimate evil act when he puts the safety of various Hollyoaks residents at risk. What's Good To Do were lucky enough to catch up with Danny Mac aka Dodger Savage this week and here’s what he had to say:
Dodger has had some very dramatic story lines lately, what has it been like for you as an actor?
It’s been great! I’ve loved it, absolutely loved it. It has been very dramatic but it’s also been a lot of fun. You know to be a part of all special effects lately has been amazing. I’ve loved every second of it.
When Dodger realises Will is responsible for Texas’s and Anna’s deaths, what goes through his mind?
It’s just so hard to comprehend something like this. Dodger’s world has been turned upside down. He just can’t get his head around it, it’s so hard to understand, just impossible to comprehend. He is full of hatred and disbelief that the brother he thought he knew and loved is capable of such things. It’s at that moment that they stop being brothers as Dodger feels that Will is dead to him.
How can he overcome such a huge betrayal from his own brother?
He can’t. It’s not something you can get over. I guess the only solace is that at least now he has answers.
What is Dodger hoping to achieve by going after Will at the mansion?
He wants to batter him! He just wants to hurt Will but he has to keep in mind the safety of everyone else that is taken hostage. What Dodger really wants is Will to himself so that he can inflict pain on him as he has done to Dodger but Dodger is not in the same league as Will, he is certainly not capable of things that Will has done, you know he is not murderous at all but Dodger does want Will to pay for what he has done, what he really wants is his brother brought to justice.
Does he want to protect his brother or is he hell bent on revenge and/or justice?
Initially revenge but overall he wants justice. He also wants to know why and how Will did what he did, until he has those answers he can’t even begin to think about moving on with his life, if that’s even possible.
When Will takes several people hostage does Dodger fear for his own or anyone else’s safety?
It’s definitely everyone else’s safety that Dodger is worried about. He doesn’t care about himself; as far as he’s concerned he’s already lost everything therefore has nothing to lose. But Will is clever in the fact that the people he takes hostage are those he feels are closet to Dodger. Will has always put Dodger on some kind of pedestal and has always wanted to have whatever Dodger has and to be like him but the truth is Dodger feels as though he has already lost everything and is worlds apart from the brother he thinks he is.
What about Dodger’s feelings for Maxine? Does he manage to keep those under wraps or to do they become apparent to Patrick during the hostage situation?
Well he certainly doesn’t want to annoy Patrick so these feelings for Maxine don’t really come into play here. Fists will definitely fly but as this storyline reaches its climax Will is more interested in playing the dad’s Dirk and Patrick off against each other.
What are the best and worst things about working on Hollyoaks?
Well the best thing is having a job! The studio, crew and cast are so great to work with, we’re like a family we really are. It’s just great to wake up in the morning and go to a job which I absolutely love, I’m lucky that I’m not one of those people who moan about their jobs you know there is already enough going on in life to moan about but not this, that’s why I got into acting because I just love it. It’s a dream job! Yes the schedules can be a bit demanding and it can be hard to juggle other things but it doesn’t make me love it any less. I guess I’m also lucky that I play such a likeable character and not one of those who everyone loves to hate. The worst thing is….. Nope nothing I just love working on Hollyoaks!
