Nothing quite like spending a Sunday evening in the heart of London at the Palladium Theatre!
Bobby Socks & Blue Jeans is a musical show covering songs from the 1950’s & 1960’s. Kytsun Wolfe, The Ponytails and The 5 Pennies sang & performed over 40 songs and kept us entertained for 2 hours, while David ‘Diddy’ Hamilton compared the event making you feel like you had been transported back in time.
It was a great night for a good old sing-a-long and really took me back to my childhood days where I remember my mum singing along to the wireless. It was quite a shock to realise I pretty much knew all the words too! I was born in the late 60’s but would guess most of the audience were a good twenty years older than me or more but none the less seemed full of energy and loudly singing along. There was a good atmosphere in the theatre and it was clear to see everyone was having a great time.
Kytsun changed his outfits frequently to reflect the singer he was imitating, (such as Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley, Lonnie Donegan and many others) often to bursts of laughter as he came back on stage. He seemed a humorous and light-hearted guy who enjoyed making us laugh although I must admit I would have preferred a more serious approach, but nevertheless the rest of the audience seemed to really enjoy his act.
The Ponytails and The 5 Pennies were a good support and it was great to hear some very good live music.
We had seats B18/B19 in the stalls giving us a great view of the show and were very comfortable. The London Palladium is a lovely theatre and beautifully decorated throughout. The bar was overpriced, glass of wine and a tonic water being £11, but you expect this in the West End. The toilets were modern and nice not to have a great queue at the Ladies!
All in all a good night, although I think more suited to the over 60’s age group.
