When two boxes arrived full of Haribo goodies arrived today our 7 year old was suitably excited and jumping up and down to have a look. With the recent lockdown we haven’t been out to many shops lately so hadn’t seen the latest festive Haribo offerings and couldn’t wait to see what was in the boxes.

Three items were packed in the boxes, an Advent calendar, selection box and a bag of Christmas themed sweets. My eyes were immediately drawn to the festive sweets and my son’s to the Advent calendar so we opened these two first. The 160g bag of Puck Penguin sweets are lovely chewy foam penguins with jelly tummies. The pink, yellow and blue penguins come in three separate flavours, blackcurrant, peach & strawberry all mixed with vanilla, and, although quite bright contain no artificial colours. So often the different colours all taste the same but these were distinctively different. Puck Penguins are definitely my kind of stocking filler, they are so chewy, I couldn’t stop eating them!

The Haribo Advent calendar is huge, way bigger than a standard one, and very brightly decorated with a traditional Alpine house. The snow covered house is surrounded by snowmen and full of elves cooking treats and making toys. Containing 300g of Haribo sweets the calendar has varying different door sizes culminating in a large 24 for Christmas Eve. Flicking the calendar over to the back you can see the 14 different sweets included behind the doors, however that doesn’t deter from getting a surprise everyday as you don’t know which sweets are behind which door. They are mainly mini 10g bags but there are also some small wrapped packs of chews and tubes. From cola bottles to sour chews, gummi bears to festive jelly shapes there is something for every sweet lover. I was impressed by this calendar; the little packs of sweets are a nice little treat for after school and make a change from a chocolate shape.

The last item we opened was the Haribo Sweet Medley selection box. With even more sweets than the calendar and weighing in at 480g this is a box to share. The box contains six large 80g bags of everybody’s favourite Haribo’s and a sharing tray to tip them into. Jelly Babies, Jellybeans and Tangfastics are some that are included in the selection and also my personal favourite, Giant Strawbs. Whilst the sharing tray is a good idea, I’m not sure the bags will last long enough to get emptied out!

I always think of party bags when I think of Haribo as they seem to be the party staple, but the Christmas range show they are much more than just a small treat. The Advent Calendar in particular, I thought was excellent as something different and the Sweet Medley selection box is suitable for vegetarians so they both make a great alternative to chocolate. If you are looking for small stocking fillers, I highly recommend the Puck Penguins at a bargain £1.00 a pack. The Advent Calendar and Sweet Medley box I think are also great value at £5.00 & £4.00 respectively so treat the children in your family to Haribo this Christmas.
