If you fancy a taste of Italy in a relaxed, neighbourhood setting, Bella Napoli fits the bill. For quality of food and service as well as value for money, its right up there with anything you’ll find in Glasgow, and there really is something for everyone.

On the downstairs level of the premises, set right in the heart of Shawlands on the south side, there’s a lovely, intimate restaurant while upstairs it’s all about café-style informal dining. The menu offers a rich seam of options for a quick spot of lunch or a more drawn out visit, with a fantastic selection of home-made desserts giving you every reason to linger.

Most of the staff are Italian, and all of them made us feel very welcome when we popped in during a busy Bank Holiday lunchtime. They were more than happy to move tables about to make room for a high chair, and the waiting staff made a great fuss of our 10 month old daughter throughout the course of the meal.

A quick look round made clear that Bella Napoli appeals to a wide variety of people. From older customers dropping in for mid-morning coffee, through students tucking into pizza to big family groups, it’s a busy, bustling and vibrant place.

Price-wise, it’s certainly competitive, with pasta mains £8-10, pizzas £9-£13 and meat dishes around the £12-£14 mark. The only drawback is the lack of easy access for those with mobility issues or prams, but certainly on the latter front the staff seem more than happy to help find a place to store your buggy while you get settled at your table.

We’d heartily recommend Bella Napoli for pretty much any occasion. More than happy to give it full marks!
