After having used several brands of baby wipes since my son’s arrival six months ago, I was pleased to see these offered as a review option. Aquawipes are free from all the usual nasties such as alcohol, chlorine, phthalate, lanolin, parabens, perfume, SLS & SLES, which is important to me as somebody with sensitive skin. I was therefore convinced my son would be similar and have skin that would need extra protection and care. I was also assured by the fact that these wipes are endorsed by the NHS and are supplied to hospitals including neonatal, maternity, and special care baby units. The brand is also linked with Great Ormond Street Hospital and a percentage of their profit goes towards the hospital charity, which made me feel happy with the brands ethos. Aquawipes sent me three different types of wipes; Premium packets, their normal packets, and some travel packets, to use on those trips where a big packet may be inconvenient.

As my son is six months old now, his doings are a bit more ‘substantial’ but I can imagine these wipes would be amazing for that first meconium sludge after birth, so I was a bit gutted I hadn’t found these sooner as I could’ve easily used a pack of these in my hospital bag (tip for those expectant mums out there- invest in these now!). The wipes are suitable ‘wet’ as they are 99.6% purified Water, organic Aloe Vera and a mild coconut made cleansing agent.
For those of you who are environment conscious, the wipes are also plastic free, and I therefore felt better about my wipe usage, as I seem to go through about three per change! They are endorsed by the Vegan Society and 100% biodegradable as well as being 100% compostable which I think is cool, especially if you’re like me and have a brewing compost bin in the back garden! The only downside to them being so wet is I feel the need to dry my sons bottom before I use his cream as I believe sometimes a moist layer can lead to rashes or irritation, so I found myself using a bit of cotton wool to ‘dry’ his bottom before finishing the change, which makes the nappy changing process a bit longer, but you probably don’t really need to do this!

I found that I really liked the premium version of the wipes more, as they seemed to be a bit more sensitive skin friendly and didn’t cause any redness on my son’s skin. I even used these sparingly on his face now that weaning has commenced and no rashes or irritation occurred, different to other brands I have tried in the past. The travel packs came in really handy as I have now replaced the large packs in my changing bag with this smaller packet and found I now have heaps of room for more probably unnecessary things in his changing bag!

In terms of endorsements, Aquawipes have been the winners of many awards such as the Mother & Baby BRONZE Award Winner 2020 – Best Baby Wipe, the Lux Life GOLD Award Winner 2019 – Best Eco-Friendly Baby Wipe Brand of the Year, the Loved by Parents GOLD Award Winner 2018 – Best Eco-Friendly Baby Wipe, the Best Baby & Toddler Gear GOLD Award Winner 2018 – Best Eco-Friendly Baby Wipe and finally, the Project Baby GOLD Award Winner 2018 – Best Baby Wipe.

Rating: I don’t think you could do much better confidence wise than seeing these lists of awards and I would give the wipes a very firm 5/5.

You can buy the wipes from most Boots and Ocado stores, as well as from Amazon for £28.99: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Biodegradable-PLASTIC-Purified-Newborn-APPROVED/dp/B01N23E64S
