When I was asked to review the Axkid One+2 car seat, we were in the middle of researching for a new car seat for our gremlins, sorry I mean Grandchildren! We have four in total, a ten year old, two year old and two that are both aged 19 months. Car seats we have found since the arrival of our grandchildren have changed enormously.
I have currently gone through three seats since the two youngest were born, as have found a variety of issues once I began using them on a weekly basis. Tricky, as you can’t test use these seats prior to purchasing, so you don’t know the pitfalls until fully in use.
So, this is my experience so far of the Axkid One + 2. It arrived to much excitement, it looked amazing in the picture I had seen, and I wasn’t disappointed. On first look, it’s a good quality sturdy well built car seat. We were impressed. My husband I confess fitted the seat into my car, I drive a Vauxhall Mokka, and he was initially concerned over it fitting as seemed somewhat larger than my existing seat. It was installed swiftly, he particularly liked the bar at the front, the side cushion and the way the seat felt once installed. As I say this is my fourth seat, mainly as I’m not entirely sold on the Isofix style. It’s my age, nothing wrong with a seat secured with a good old seat belt to make you feel your precious bundle is safe and secure, especially when your Nanny Day Care. The thing is, there is always a budget, hence me changing seats. I bought based on price, when in reality, can you really put a price on your child’s or grandchild’s safety? My daughter has a particularly good seat, but it was expensive and that had put me off.
If you have the budget, you should definitely have a look at the Axkid One + 2. It’s a Swedish brand, not one I have seen before, and new to the UK I think. It has won numerous safety awards and it’s easy to see why when it’s fixed into your car. This is a purely rear facing car seat, which should take your little one up to age 7 years. This was our issue, the little ones feet rear facing were cramped up, almost folded in when we turned the old seat round, and he doesn’t weigh enough to be forward facing. Yet in the Axkid One + 2 with its sliding seat he sits comfortably and his feet have their own space. The seat also has a sleep well system, so if on a long journey you can easily adjust back so they enjoy their snooze with out saggy head, who hasn’t tried reaching back into the car to sit their head up as they look so uncomfortable!
It’s early days, and yesterday rather than change the seat into my husbands car he drove mine, he struggled for leg room in the drivers seat, so when we reach our destination we swapped it to behind the passenger seat. Minor issue and easily remedied. Having had use of several brands over recent years I can honestly say his is far superior to anything I have had previously, I would urge you to look beyond the price tag. It’s very much worth it, and I am hoping with the age range will be the last seat we have to use! Well until another gremlin, I mean grandchild arrives!
