I was extremely excited to learn that I was selected to review these 3 lovely and tasteful wines.
Whilst I am not a wine expert, I am a lover of wines and I am certainly no wine snob, if I like the taste of, regardless of whether it goes with what I am eating or not, I will drink it.
It was lovely to learn that this is a real family business, dating back 3 generations.
I am also very dubious about sulphates in some wines but I did not need to worry with these ones at all.
Chardonnay 2020 13%
Upon opening the bottle, I inhaled and noticed a very pleasant oaky armour but not too strong on the aroma or taste. This particular wine had some very intriguing tropical fruit aromas too. The flavours were very fruity, refreshing and delightful. With fruits and flavours such as peach, pineapple and papaya. The vanilla is a pleasant aroma and taste too with a hint of toffee. It is not as smooth as some other chardonnays I have tried, nevertheless, delightful, clean, fresh and vey palatable.
This is more of a dry white wine and I would say of medium body, not too acidy either. Great to drink anytime, especially on a warm summers afternoon (not too early, well, it is always 5 o’clock somewhere) lol.
I have to say, that as a red wine lover, this was lovely, I was pleasantly surprised.
Rating: 5/5
Great price at just £5.50 for 75cl from Co-Op and can be found here by clicking on this link
Shiraz 2020 13.5%
I love a Shiraz, so much so, I have a vast selection of them in my wine fridge. This particular one was ok, not as punchy as some others
Occasionally I get a real buzz for a really nice Shiraz… Sadly this did not live up to the many others I have tried in the past. Taste was not very strong and also tasted a little like it had been watered down, even so, it is light if you are not wanting a red wine that can otherwise be too heavy. What was very noticeable, was the pleasant sharpness of the black fruits and cherry.
The nose is brief with a little forest fruits going on. The palate is similarly weak; slightly watery in texture but saved by a decent cherry tartness with some blackcurrant. Finish is short and dominated by a forward oak taste. 2/5
Rating: 3/5
Not a bad price for what it is at just £5.50 for 75cl from Co-Op which can be found here by clicking on this link
The Unexpected Cabernet Sauvignon 14%
Now, this was amazing! Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo with Sagrantino, making it for quite a heavy read and it was delightful. I was dubious about the mention of ‘violet’ in it as I am not lover of it, always reminds me of parma violet sweets lol but I was pleasantly surprised, so much so, that I have to say, it was my favourite out of the 3.
A great combination of black and red fruits making it mouth watering tasty and not too dry either. The fruits and milk chocolate make for a slightly sweeter taste and delicious to the palette.
One tip to mention, give it some time to air as it tasted better this way they once opened straight away.
Rating: 6/5 – I know, 6/5 is not the normal for a rating but I just had to, it is worth it and at just £6.50 for 75cl, I will be stocking up.
