We are very familiar with Peppa Pig and her family in our house.  Our granddaughter is a huge fan and loves anything to do with Peppa Pig.  I have watched many episodes of Peppa Pig and know that she loves helping her grandpa in the greenhouse, so I was very pleased when I was asked to review Grandpa Pig’s Greenhouse.  The greenhouse is part of the “grow and play” range which also includes Peppa’s Garden Playhouse, Suzy’s Peppa Pot, George’s Peppa Pot, Rebecca’s Peppa Pot and Peppa’s Peppa Pot.  All designed to encourage children to plant the seeds and care for their plants as they watch them grow.

Grandpa Pigs Greenhouse comes with a Grandpa figure, Peppa figure, Mr Scarecrow, a bird, two planting pots, red amaranth and basil seeds and a white fence that can be used to connect any of the other items from the Play and Grow range.

The greenhouse comes in seven parts and needs assembling.  Although quite simple I did find it tricky to get the pieces to stay in the slots.  Mr Scarecrow also needs assembling but this was super easy and only took seconds.  You need to add soil or compost to the planting pots then a third of the pack of seeds.  The remaining seeds can be kept for future planting, the pots can then inside the greenhouse or separately if you want to play with the greenhouse, but make sure they get plenty of light.

My tip is make sure you have some soil or compost to hand before you start assembling this toy as it is not included in the set .  We had to leave the planting until the next day as we didn’t have any available.  The greenhouse is now on our kitchen window sill and looks so cute, but I think the next time granddaughter visits the greenhouse will be played with and the only the pots will be left on the window sill.   It will be lovely for her to see how much the plants have grown in between her visits and a good introduction into how things grow. It will be her Grandpa’s job to look after the plants while she is away and this is a special project for the two of them .All being well it shouldn’t be long before the plants are ready to harvest.  I have used basil before but have never heard of red amaranth.  In the picture it looks a vibrant red in colour so they will look good in a salad or sandwich.

Step by step instructions are included with some helpful growing tips and if this toy sparks off an interest in growing other things read the part about growing your own sweet potatoes.  I’m going to try it.
Such a fun introduction for a child to discover the joy of growing and eating your own healthy food.
Grandpa Pigs Greenhouse is suitable for children aged three and above and is available from amazon.co.uk priced at £16.94 (editor’s note – at the time of putting the review online) they also stock the other items in this range.
