We recently went to the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford to see the Christmas panto, Aladdin, starring Billy Pearce and Chico (from the X-Factor).
On arriving at the theatre, we were surprised to find Santa in the foyer and some school children singing. It looked like it was snowing as they had a machine blowing snow outside, it was really nice, very much like Christmas.
After taking our seats the show opened with Abanazar, played by Jeffrey Harmer, being booed as he playes the bad guy that tries to get the magic lamp that grants three wishes before Aladdin gets it. Aladdin is played by Billy Pearce, Chico plays Slave of the Ring, which is worn by the nasty Abanazar, and Widow Twankey, Aladdin’s mother, is played by Adam Stafford, she is very funny and had the audience laughing all night long.
Princess Jasmine, played by Jennie Gayner, had a lovely voice and the outfits she had to wear were beautiful, but the best part of the panto for me was when Aladdin had to go on the magic carpet to try and get the lamp as the carpet then magically flies into the audience, rotating round and round, it definitely was magic.
Chico was good, and him and Aladdin were very funny and had the audience interacting with them, all night the monster size gorilla was very life like and scary,
Overall the scenery lighting, wardrobe, and visual effects were great, a family pantomime I would definitely recommend going to see, we had a great night.
