Disney’s West End and Broadway smash hit Aladdin hits Bradford as part of it’s first tour of the UK.
This award winning stage production was truly, quintessentially, a Disney production through and through; from the beautiful bold sets, the vocals to the phenomenal musical numbers bringing you the well loved songs from the 1992 animations right through to the new musical addition which were written by multi award winner Alan Menken there was an undeniable stamp of quality was on every note and prop.

From the same team behind the smash hit productions of The Lion King, Frozen and Beauty and The Beast.

The story of a poor boy, a bit of a theft with a heart.
Aladdin has a wish to make his deceased mother proud and a dream of finding true love . It all comes together after the chance encounter with Princess Jasmine at the market and crossing paths with Evil Jafar the trusted Advisor to the Sultan. This leaves Aladdin in the possession of a magical lamp. Ultimately gives him the power to go ahead and make his desire to win the love of Jasmine a reality and banish the Evil Jafar.

One lamp, 3 wishes, endless opportunities!

The diverse, multinational cast was headed by the Aladdin understudy, Kerry Spark, and he shone in the role, being every bit the professional whilst looking like he loved every second on-stage in fact the whole cast looks so happy to be on the stage.

Alongside the phenomenal Yeukayi Ushe, who blew us away with his powerful and versatile voice and amazing stage presence playing the Genie, Desmonda Cathabel shone playing a perfect Disney Princess just beautifully with her Sass and independence as well as the inevitable villain Jafar played by Adam Strong, the entire ensemble was perfectly cast.

With a fantastic comical flair sprinkled throughout mainly from the Jafar’s sidekick Iago played by Angelo Paragoso and the addition of Aladdin’s 3 Friends Kassim, Omar and Babkak played by Nay-Nay, Adam Taylor and Nelson Battencourt. The new characters fit in well, though there’s that many, a few jokes unfortunately may have been misssed! However our entire family was enthralled from start to finish, The show really will put a smile on your face.

The true feel of Agrabah is imposed upon the stage by the fantastic sets it was wonderful to see how the images from an animation could be translated to a stage production. Fortunately it was really well done from the word go, with its bright and bold sets, and stunning costumes matched with amazing choreography.

The imperiousness of the regal palace comes across beautifully in its elegant props and backdrops. The set for the cave of wonders was eye-bogglingly glitzy, whilst the magic carpet scene was eye-wateringly beautiful.

This is a great show recommended for those above the age of 6 (under 3’s not permitted) The technical expertise on display throughout the production was some of the best I’ve ever seen, with some amazing special effects and outright stage magic on display. With 100s of stunning sparkling costumes and a live orchestra to accompany the spectacular vocal abilities of the cast it was all perfectly put together

Playing from Wednesday the 14th of August through to Sunday the 1st of September, Aladdin is an experience I’m truly happy to have seen. A great treat for the school holidays
