Sugru Mouldable Glue Review

Reviewed by Katie Allen

I was so excited when the Sugru packet fell through my letter box. I’m an avid Pinterester and had seen so many ideas on the site with uses for the strange, play-doh like substance. Sugru is a soft and malleable substance that sets strong and turns into a durable, flexible silicone rubber.

I had received a packet of 8 single use packs of various colours (red, yellow, blue, white and black) and I immediately got to work.

I wanted to make some key hooks from some small LEGO figures. I opened the blue packet and set to moulding the Sugru around the figures and sticking them to a shelf. Once complete I secured them in place with masking tape and waited 24 hours. I then looked around the house for something to use the leftover Sugru with (as it dries out quite quickly), deciding on repairing a broken cupboard handle.

I was eager to see the LEGO figures 24 hours later and hastily took off the masking tape. The figures looked great and held fast while I attached the shelf to the wall however as soon as I hung some keys on them they fell off. Maybe I needed to let it dry for longer, in a warmer environment or maybe Sugru isn’t strong enough to compete against gravity. I was a bit disappointed but there are plenty more ideas to have a go at.

I’m keen to try some fixes with our toilet seat that refuses to stay in place and our shower attachment where the lever keeps falling off. I’m also interested to see what my 4-year-old could make with it.

I’ve got my eye on getting a few packets to give people as Christmas presents – my dad and my father-in-law would make great use of it I’m sure. What do you give someone who has everything? Sugru!
