I absolutely love my nights away in the country, relaxing, going for walks out in the fresh air and what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than to take my mum along with me for a well earned break from reality.
I was sent a gifted one night getaway voucher by email to book one night stay in a hotel. So I set to work looking for the perfect place to take my mum which would meet both our needs. The voucher gives you a voucher reference and a PIN number along with a website link to login and browse the options available. The voucher came with an expiry date a year away so is the perfect gift for people to look at their own pace.
Once I had logged in, I was astounded at the choices available. I have used vouchers like this before but for a rival brand and there was very limited options locally with the other brand. We didn’t want to travel too far as I have two young children so wanted to be no more than an hours drive away, just in case.
I began my search and found that there were some fantastic hotels available which were included in the voucher, along with a free breakfast. I did however, decide that I would like to visit Buxton, so I started my search here and I fell in love with the Ensana Buxton Crescent Hotel. I searched dates that we could both make (this was the difficult part as we both had holidays booked in the next few weeks) and we settled on a crescent room for the first weekend in March. We did have to pay an upgrade fee of £122 which came with free breakfast. However, we had looked at a rival spa hotel locally which would have cost us £100 to access the spa as it was not included in the hotel booking. Whereas from reading reviews online, the Ensana included spa access and was far superior to the other hotel we looked at (which I have visited previously).
Booking was really straight forward. Once I had chosen the hotel and the room that we wanted, I was prompted to put in my card details to pay the remaining balance. I then received an email confirmation with a reference number to confirm the booking. I then rang the hotel to check the times that we could use the spa whilst on our stay. They were very helpful and gave me the times, this then allowed me to plan our trip around using the spa.
I wanted this break to be perfect for my mums early Mother’s Day treat. I have never been to the centre of Buxton and my mum hasn’t visited for a number of years. She had told me how beautiful the town was and I was very excited to be able to spend this time with her.
The day arrived to check in and getting to Buxton was straight forward with it being less than an hour from our homes. When we got to the hotel, we were astounded at the magnificent hotel which was before us. It reminded me of something out of a Bridgerton book. It was built in the Georgian era and there was no expense spared when designing this beautiful building. It has recently been refurbished and has had huge attention paid to the spa so we were very excited to see what awaited us.
We were welcomed to the hotel by a friendly receptionist who checked us in and explained the spa details and booked us in for breakfast the following morning. We quickly located our room and we’re pleasantly surprised by the stunning decor. We quickly got changed into our bathing suits followed by the robes and flip flops that had been left in our room and made our way down to the spa.
The spa was breathtaking. I have never been to a spa as fabulously decorated or equipped as this. There was a rooftop outdoor pool, indoor pool, relaxation room, 3 different types of sauna, salt cave, thermal pool, relaxation pool, steam room, aroma room and heated loungers, all that you can use as a hotel guest. We spent a couple of hours in the evening enjoying all of these facilities before heading out for an evening meal.
Buxton has plenty of places to eat and drink so we were able to find somewhere that suited our fancies easily. We decided to visit an Italian restaurant called St Moritz, which was a few minutes walk from the hotel. The food was lovely and the service was great. We then had a few drinks in a bar afterwards before heading back to the hotel for the evening.
We wanted to spend the following morning in the spa before having a late breakfast. This had been a great idea and he arrived in the spa before 8am to a deserted thermal pool. It was lovely and relaxing and we were able to fully experience the facilities before an easy checkout.
Breakfast was lovely and there was so much on offer but we did find that arriving for the last slot was probably not a good idea as the staff did not seem to replenish the food. What we had was enjoyable though and filled us us before our wander around Buxton. There is so much to see an do in Buxton with a lovely Pavilion Garden, shopping centre, opera house and museum that we were occupied for a good few hours before it was time to head home.
We loved our visit and it was the perfect getaway for a mother and daughter break. We found lots of little cafes and bars that we would like to visit if we return and I am going to take my children for a day trip as I know they will love to experience it there.
Overall, the Buyagift voucher was excellent. It was so easy to use, with a huge amount of choice and it would be the perfect gift for Mother’s day. My mum was overjoyed at the experience and we both had a great time away.
