As a small business owner I enjoy the freedom of being able to work to my own schedule, of not having to ask for holidays and having complete autonomy over everything I do. But there is always a flip-side and these freedoms mean that I don’t get the benefits I once enjoyed when I was employed; the well-being days, the tax free voucher schemes, the free healthcare etc. So, to balance out the weight of running your own business and the long hours and additional worries, it is important to carve out your own benefits to make sure that you are looking after yourself personally as well as professionally.
When I was offered the chance to review the Business Box Subscription my first thought was ‘this is a genius idea’. It’s exactly what a small business owner needs, especially when you feel quite isolated and like no one else is looking out for your well-being. I received the January subscription box and I was quite surprised by the number of things I got in it but also by the quality of the items too. This box has clearly been designed by someone who ‘gets it’. Someone who understands the need to look after your own well-being both physically and mentally but also fulfil that need to develop yourself and grow professionally.
The box contained: a book entitled Clarity, Communication and Connection by Lucy Rennie worth £10.99, a Vision Board kit worth £10, 30 Days of Happiness Scratch Poster worth £8.99, a Stress Less Plant worth £3.99 and a Soap Slice smelling of heaven worth £2.50. It felt like Christmas had arrived in my little home office! In addition, details of 2 training online sessions to be held throughout the month that I could choose to attend – details to follow in an email. One to cover planning your social media strategy and the other to look at SEO within business. Wow what an offer! I can only hazard a guess at what that training is worth.
To say it made me feel happy, valued and motivated is an understatement. The items are things that I know I will get full use out of and each meets my motivational needs as a business owner. From a tool to help me to identify my vision and goals and to help me stayed focused, to a book to meet my self-development needs. A really lovely lavender plant that I can grow and nurture on my desk, knowing that once grown it will fill my senses daily with such lovely scents when I’m working. The poster and soap ensure that I do things to look after myself and take the time away from work to gain some headspace and do things to make me happy.
The subscription costs from £33 for the month. With options to sign up for 3 months or 6 months at a time with your first box being half price. This is not only a great idea for business owner’s but would make a great gift for that person in your life who works their behinds off on their business, also what a lovely idea to sign up an employee if you head up a small team within your business. I absolutely love this box and am going to enjoy making full use of every single thing in it.

I give it a 5/5 for being a great business expense that you won’t regret.
