SNOObear is the most adorable little bear, created by Dr. Harvey Karp, author of the Happiest Baby. Inside the teddy is a removable speaker box, it is a white noise machine that plays six soothing sounds that are known to promote sleep and calm crying, for babies and young children.
The bear comes packaged in a sturdy cardboard box with a cut out front to display the toy, the box has the ‘Happiest baby SNOObear’ logo on the packaging along with a cute baby drawing. Simple visual pictures show its four main features, and the rear of the box has more detailed descriptions.

The SNOObear has cuddly curly fur, it is made from polyester and has no loose threads, the main colour is cream, it is also available in brown, the paws and ears are a contrasting darker beige, with the same colour used for the face. The features are sweet, sleepy crescent shaped eyes, a smile for a mouth and a soft button like nose. The bears arms have space for fingers so it can be used as a hand puppet and around its neck are small soft Velco’d straps so that can be used to attach the teddy to the pushchair or car seat. The bear is very tactile, and I can imagine little hands wanting to cuddle their new friend.
In the bear’s back is a lined pouch which houses the speaker box, the pouch itself has a discrete material logo and is held closed by soft Velcro, cleverly attached inside the pocket is a piece of material with printed instructions, particularly useful when the packaging has been discarded and you need a reminder of how to operate it.
The speaker box can be removed from the toy and used independently, the two AA batteries, which are provided require a small Phillips screwdriver (not provided) to open the casing to fit them, the rectangular shaped box has rounded edges and easily pressed controls, there is also a small rocker switch to choose timing options from 30 minutes or 60 minutes, for playing the white noise.
Various clicking options can be used to flick through the six sound options, until you reach your preferred choice, I like the rumbling train. A double click will turn it off, if left to run for either 30 or 60 minutes it will then automatically turn off. The box is said to continue to monitor for the sound of a baby crying for 3hrs and if detected will restart for another cycle. I have not been able to try out this feature, as my SNOObear is a Christmas gift, for our newest family member. I think this will be well received as his parents have already invested in the SNOO crib, which they tell me he sleeps happily in…well…’like a baby’. The SNOObear is intended to help the baby transition to a new sleep-space once the SNOO is outgrown, with the same sounds they have become accustomed to within the SNOO.
