Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. I like the changes in colours of the leaves on the trees, kicking through the fallen leaves and picking up conkers and chestnuts with my children. We also look forward to Halloween when the children dress up and we carve pumpkins and, if we’re really lucky, eat toffee apples too. As the evenings start to draw in there’s also nothing I like more than to snuggle up with a nice cup of tea and a good book. In fact, I’m a big fan of tea and drink a lot of it! So, when I was asked to try some Halloween inspired teas from Bird and Blend Tea Co I jumped at the chance.
Bird and Blend Tea Co are a Brighton based independent, award-winning, tea company who are on a mission to “spread happiness and reimagine tea”. From a quick look at their website I was amazed by the enormous range of different flavour teas available so I couldn’t wait to see what I was going to be sent.
When the box arrived a couple of days later, I wasn’t disappointed. Inside the box were:
Toffee Apple Loose Leaf Tea 50g £5.75
Spiced Pumpkin Pie Tea Bags x 40 £13.50
Tea Infuser Sacs x 10 £1.50
Bonus free samples of Gingerbread Chai and English Breakfast Tea
I was also very pleased that the packaging was entirely recycled and recyclable, there wasn’t any plastic to be seen so I could put it straight into the recycling bin.
Firstly, I tried the Spiced Pumpkin Pie Tea which is one of Bird and Blend’s most popular teas. I was sent a pouch of tea bags but, like all of the teas, this is also available as loose-leaf. Spiced Pumpkin Pie is a black tea which is spiced with hints of cinnamon, cloves and ginger (amongst others) and has really cute pumpkin shaped sprinkles intermingled with the tea leaves which dissolve when the tea is brewed. I really enjoyed the taste of this tea, it was lovely and warming, and did conjure up images of pumpkin pie and autumn in my head. I always drink my tea black and this tasted really nice, it can also be enjoyed with milk or even as a frothy chai latte, which I am definitely going to be trying! Another bonus is that the tea bags are completely plastic free and biodegradable too, I also liked the fact that the tea bags come in a resealable pouch so will keep fresh. They have a use by date of April 2023, although I can guarantee they won’t need to last anywhere near that long in my house!
Next, I tried the Toffee Apple Tea. I was sent a 50g pouch of Loose Tea, which at first slightly alarmed me as I don’t actually own a tea pot, but I needn’t have worried as the lovely people at Bird and Blend had also sent me a pack of ten tea infuser sacs. These are really clever little draw string bags that a spoonful of the loose tea is placed in to create tea bags. I actually thought this was a genius idea as it means everyone can enjoy loose leaf tea without having to own a teapot.
But anyway, back to the Toffee Apple Tea. Apparently, this tea is the winner of this year’s Autumn Vote Back which means it has come back by popular demand and will be available for the rest of the season. This is another black tea which is flavoured to taste like “sweet smoked toffee apples by the fireside”, and do you know what, it really does! I really enjoyed this tea which is flavoured with cinnamon, apple, blackberry and lime leaves and a few other ingredients. And, as I only needed one teaspoon for each brew, 50g is going to last me a nice long time.
I was also sent a couple of bonus free teabags to try – English Breakfast and Gingerbread Chai which were also both very nice.
I’ve really enjoyed trying out these lovely teas from Bird and Blend, they are both yummy and really do evoke thoughts of Halloween and autumn. They would be amazing to serve up to friends at a Halloween gathering. You can even buy a limited-edition spooky tin of Spiced Pumpkin Pie tea on the website if you’re quick.
I’ve also really enjoyed looking through the Bird and Brew website and seeing all the other types of tea available, I’ve already earmarked chocolate digestive and birthday cake as my next two to try! And even more excitingly, I noticed that there is a Bird and Brew Shop opening up in my home town which I will definitely be checking out very soon. These teas are definitely going to be on my Christmas and Birthday lists from now on!
