It’s almost Christmas! Shopping for loved ones is at the forefront of many minds right now and finding that perfect gift is important no matter the age of the recipient. I was so excited to try the Rock a Mole guitar. The cardboard box it comes in is colourful and you can try the toy before you buy as the box has an open front. I expected it to make annoying sounds and let’s face it, all parents are a little worried about noisy toys with reparative jingles! This one was actually a delight, I loved the rock riffs and little tunes. I found myself humming along with them with my XXXXXX (editor’s note – word removed) in enjoyment rather than just having electronic jingles stuck in my head. I also feel it is a fab gateway into some good music. So that’s a big bonus for me.
It arrives with batteries, so as a gift it is ready to go! So no worrying about having the wrong size in, or having to wait to play. It arrives good to go which for me, with gifting for small children, is an absolute must!
This guitar kept my one year old XXXXXX (editor’s note – word removed) entertained for days. It was the first toy he made a bee line for when it was play time in the morning. Holding it above his head and (I assume) pretending he was in a band. It would be dragged around, thrown, dropped, and it’s still as perfect as it arrived. I particularly like that it’s not too loud or overbearing too, just the right volume.
This Avocado shaped guitar is suitable for ages 6 months and up, I’d say that was a very fair age recommendation. It is light enough for smaller ones to hold, drag and the buttons so easy to press. I particularly like that the avocado stone rolls, meaning that hands can cause the guitar to play different sounds rather than needing fingers to move strings. The ball is so easy to move yet sturdy enough to stand up to being dropped and whacked. I am really impressed with how robust it is for smaller children. There are no sharp edges so no risk of scratching or cutting gums should they decide to put part of it in their mouth. The buttons light up too, which is a great feature for those kids who love lights. It has a happy little face too, which my XXXXXX (editor’s note – word removed) kept tracing with his finger. He loved that the guitar was happy. This however could be the only downside to the toy as even though the sounds are good and it is so playable, some of it’s features might lead it to being left alone before it’s time. Even though it could potentially be played with by older children, looking at it, it is very clearly designed for a baby. A more basic design might have encouraged more parents to buy for toddlers too. Saying that though, it does fit the brief and my young XXXXXX (editor’s note – word removed) seemed to adore it.
For me this would be the perfect Christmas gift for a child aged 6 months or over. For a small toy it really has so much to offer.
Rating: I give this toy 5 out of 5 stars. I’d certainly buy it for a gift for someone in the future.
RRP and buy link: You can purchase the guitar here. It RRP’s at £20, and has a 2 year guarantee which is a fab option to have.
