My 5 year old daughter is a unicorn enthusiast to say the least, and there seems to be no shortage of unicorn merchandise available so it can be difficult to weed out the tatt from the quality toys.

We were keen recipients of the Animagic rainbow glow unicorn and I was looking forward to seeing what my daughter made of the toy. It’s fair to say she squealed with delight, it was love at first sight for her and Rainbow, she could barely hold in her excitement for me to remove it from the packaging.

I was pleased to note there was no unnecessary plastic and the unicorn itself sat nicely in a open front cardboard box that could easily be recycled, secured only by a small amount of wire. Small toys in massive amounts of packaging is a bug bear of mine so on this the toy scored well.

Rainbow measures approximately 15cm high, 25cm wide, I was expecting a bigger toy but this didn’t seem to bother my little one and was just the right size for small people cuddles.

The unicorn is a soft plush, white in colour except for her mane and tail which are a bright multi-colour, the name Rainbow suits her entirely. Rainbow’s horn is made of plastic and lights up when a push button inside her back is pressed, this was easily activated with a firm stroke from my daughter. The light up horn is also activated by various ‘unicorn’ sounds, I was pleased to note they are gentle pleasant horse and magic sounds and not too noisy or obnoxious. Rainbow requires 3 AAA batteries, these came included which is a plus as it was ready to go without any of the usual faffing about looking for batteries before the usual disappointment on not having the right size in.

My daughter couldn’t put it down it has kept her occupied during the rainy weather we have had recently she uses it a lot in her role playing games, she even brings it to bed with her, definitely a new favourite. Perfect for imaginative play. I have loved watching her enjoy it and get lost in play the way only a 5 year old can. Rainbow is ideal for any Unicorn loving child, recommended for 3 years and over, but could be enjoyed from any age.

Rainbow is currently on sale (editor’s note – at the time of writing the review) for £15 in Argos (with 25% off-usually £20) This is a good price and a reasonable spend for school friends birthday parties and would be an easy win with my daughters crowd. The quality of the item is good and feels like it would take a fair amount of snuggling and rough play and could probably be passed down to her sister when she has outgrown it.

So overall I have no complaint about this toy, it is good quality, reasonably priced and most importantly fully approved by my 5 year old.
