Having being a battlefield 2 PC Gamer from 2005, which was one of my personal favourite gaming experiences at the time, I went into Battlefield 3 with some huge reservations. Could EA make up for the painful memory that was battlefield 2142? Within moments all my reservations were taken away.

This game is what gaming should be, firstly and for mostly fun, the pick up and play aspect of battlefield 3 is the one thing that draws me back time and time again. Personally I do not have a lot of time for gaming, but the balance between the different classes and levels never feels like I am being overpowered by people that can dedicate much more time to the game.

The graphics are simply amazing on what is now becoming a dated console, I often notice like effects and I’m simply amazed by some detail in the background (which often leads to death pretty quickly!).

The sound design is also superb and greatly superior to other games of this ilk, Dice must of spent a considerable amount of time on this part of the game, and I for one am thankful for this, hearing battles in the far distance, the beauty of hearing a helicopter taking off in the from the nearby base really helps you immerse into the gaming environment.

There are some go live issues with the game though, which when these are resolved will make the game less frustrating. The multiplayer voice comms is severely buggy at the moment, during a heated battle the voice stream will often drop out, meaning any teamwork is left to pure guess work. Also the single player part of the game is short, almost a bit too short, the story is clichéd to the max and overall feels rushed, however single player aside Battlefield always has been about the online side of things and that they have done amazingly.

The inclusion of battlelog is a fantastic addition for the franchise, you can see how your online friends are doing and compare stats. This has clearly had a lot of love put into the website, Dice have said also they intend on releasing an Iphone app but as of this week this has not materialized yet.

I have recommended this game to five other people so far, and all of them have fallen in love with the game almost as much as myself, Dice have not only just brought out a new first person shooter this year, they have tried to push the boundaries and for the most part, they have succeeded.
