Khet Laser Game Review
Khet 2.0 Laser Game
Reviewed by Stacey Struthers
Khet is a two-player Egyptian-themed chess-like board game using lasers.
There are 5 different playing pieces: Pharoah, Scarab, Anubis, Pyramid and Sphinx (which contains the laser). Players take turns moving pieces around the playing field, firing their low-powered laser after each move. Most of the pieces are mirrored on one or more sides, allowing the players to alter the path of the laser through the playing field. When a piece is struck by a laser on a non-mirrored side, it is eliminated from the game. The aim of the game is to illuminate your opponents Pharoah however, if you illuminate your own Pharoah your opponent wins!
The box states this game is a Mensa Select National Competition Winner, coupled with the Egyptian theme makes this an intimidating game on sight. Which might explain why it also states “easy to learn to in minutes!” on the front of the box.
We enjoyed playing this game; well my husband did until he lost! We found the game easy to learn, the instructions are clear and the rules simple, not too numerous and well explained. The lasers add a visual element to striking and eliminating your opponent’s pieces and help avoid arguments.
This is a fun game of strategy, which is simple enough to start playing straight away. The game can be more complex as your skill level develops and through the use of different starting layouts.
We did think that the finish on the pieces could be improved, they felt a little cheap – but this did not affect our enjoyment of the game.
