This is Elvis at the Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury Review

We braved the cold last night (26 February 2018) to go to the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury to see the new Bill Kenwright musical, This is Elvis. We were rewarded for our braveness.
You surely wouldn’t need to love Elvis to appreciate the show I have seen last night. The theatre was full of a very mixed age group, although erring on the older side it was nice to see a few children amongst them. Elvis of course needs no introduction and the show covers Elvis’s comeback after a tv special is aired and the subsequent Vegas Years.
I don’t think I have ever seen or heard someone sing Elvis in such a mesmerising all-encompassing way. I could say stunning, fantastic, amazing, but to be quite honest that wouldn’t touch the sides.
I have just seen Elvis, that’s how I felt when I left the theatre, Steve Michaels you’re truly truly incredible. He doesn’t just look the part more than anyone I have ever seen, he has the most amazing amazing voice. His mannerisms, the dancing, the singing. There were very few songs that I didn’t know, standout from the first half was ‘Bridge over troubled Water’ along with ‘Oh happy day’. Sometimes when you see people who sing Elvis, you close your eyes and think yes, this could be him, not with this guy, he’s the complete package, he looks and sounds the part.
It’s an emotional journey and the second half is full of all-time favourite hits. My personal favourite is ‘In the Ghetto’ but to be perfectly honest the show is packed with standout songs. The guy is an incredible singer and if you don’t ever see this show your missing out. All credit to the rest of the musicians and that’s all of them whether playing an instrument or the lovely ladies supporting him, they are an outstanding cast. This show most certainly wouldn’t be out of place in the West End.
As the song goes ‘can’t help falling in Love with you’, I loved, loved, loved you all. I can’t begin to explain the depth and sincerity Steve Michaels played Elvis with, I have no doubt in my mind I will see this show again. You leave the theatre feeling you have just glimpsed what it felt like to see the King himself. Fabulous, just flipping fabulous. This is Elvis, what an outstanding tribute to the King.
