Well, what a night I hardly know where to start! As soon as we arrived at the Portsmouth Guildhall we were transported back to the 1940’s with servicemen, Land Girls and countless ladies with Victory Roll hairdos! We were there to see The Three Belles – Betty, Gail and Dorothy, a trio inspired by the Andrews Sisters.

The foyer was filled with people in character who took our tickets and showed us to our seats. 99.9 percent of the audience were dressed in period clothes and the atmosphere was fantastic. We were lucky enough to be sat on a table with none other than Winston Churchill – this guy was a remarkable look-a-likey and mimicked him impeccably.

The evening consisted of 1940’s dancing and singing, the Lindy Hop moves being busted on the dance floor were amazing. Audience participation was critical and the dance floor was rarely bare, the atmosphere created was authentic and exceptionally high energy. The Three Belles, were realistic with their characters Betty, Gail and Dorothy and we mustn’t miss out Betty’s brother Charles – ‘What Ho Chappy’ Charles was a great compere and took the acts on nicely from one to the other.

The Bevin Boys, were fab and exceptionally easy on the eye! The show was interrupted by an Air Raid Siren where we were directed in to the ‘Air Raid Shelter’ here spirits were high as we drank Bovril and sang along to ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperay’.

With Spitfire cocktails, Corn Beef Hash and Lardy Cakes on the menu you really were taken back in time! A full night of entertainment, great music and the opportunity to dance along – what more could you want.

Definitely value for money.
