I was really pleased to be asked to review Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at Bradford Alhambra. I have seen a production of Joseph before but it was a rather long time ago!
We turned up to the theatre in plenty of time to have a quick drink at the bar prior to the main feature. The staff were lovely and helpful and we were very quickly served. We then made our way to the auditorium and found our seats, I was pleasantly surprised at the leg room in the stalls the seats in general being very comfy.
The production was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, it is a light-hearted joyous show with real mixed musical influences from Elvis to calypso, though the quieter more solemn moments were beautifully handled and the singing was superb. The cast were fantastic the female narrator has a truly beautiful voice which she uses so skilfully to tell the story, Joseph is both passionate and yet beautifully understated at times and the Heckmondwike school children forming the choir were really impressive.
A lot of people in the audience were obviously very familiar with Joseph and its music and we were all encouraged to sing along in the finale which people did with great enthusiasm. It really is a great night out and suitable for most of the family too, I thoroughly recommend going to see this production.
