Getting to the City Hall in Sheffield was pretty easy. There is plenty of parking nearby that wasn’t overpriced. After 8:30pm it is free so you only need just over an hour. The City Hall itself is a grand looking building with some nice water features outside. Inside the staff were helpful and friendly. From where I was sitting I had a pretty good view. I was on row L seats 25 and 26 which was right in the middle in front of stage.
Before status quo came on there was a support act which was called terry and Gerry and are a cult skiffle cow punk band. These were quite comical and got the audience warmed up!
Status Quo themselves started to play just before 9 and played non-stop for about an hour and a half. The band have released a new album called Status Quo Aquostic Stripped Bare. Thankfully on the night none of them actually stripped off! After 50 Years of jumping around on stage tonight’s acoustic session saw them all seated with additional musicians including a string section, accordion player and backing vocals. The band consisted of Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Andrew Bown, John (Rhino) Edwards and Leon Cave.
The band played lots of familiar songs and included Pictures of Matchstick Men, Paper Plane, Caroline, Down Down, Rocking All Over the World, Whatever You Want, Burning Bridges and many more.
I would definitely go and see them again. The show was enjoyed by many different types of people from children around the age of 6 right up to old rockers!! It was a really enjoyable night. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys rock music with a difference.
I give the Status Quo and the venue top marks.
Overall all it was a brilliant night! The only downside was the merchandise was a bit on the expensive side. I would really have liked a t-shirt but these were priced at £25 or £10 for a key ring.
Status Quo are touring the UK with Aquostic until 30 April 2015. For more information or to book tickets visit www.statusquo.co.uk.
