Aldi Stretch Gloves Review

Reviewed by Emma Salmon

I looked forward to receiving these gloves because I run a Forest school and often it is difficult to find gloves which keep your hands warm or protected, and yet give you the flexibility to perform tasks.

The fabric they are made from is very soft and they feel very comfortable to wear. Typically the weather has changed, but it was still cold enough first thing in the morning to try them out and test their warmth. These gloves won’t keep you protected from arctic storms, but compared to many bulky knitted gloves, they compare very well. They are also thin enough that they could easily be used as a skin tight under layer in colder weather, although you would need to check that the grips didn’t catch on the gloves you were wearing over the top. They have a nice wrist cuff, so this stops the wind blowing in, and they have a handy clip to fix them together and prevent you from losing one of them.

The grips on the palms and 2 of the fingers are useful for when using any tools or equipment outside – I was able to manipulate my fingers enough to light a fire and also do some sawing – sometimes in woodland activities many gloves are too bulky to be safely worn for tool use, but these felt as if they could protect from cold and yet still provide enough flexibility for fine motor skilled work.

The forefinger and thumb have touchscreen pads which combine viscose with a metal fibre and allow easy use of tablets or phones whilst wearing them – this is a very clever idea and it worked well – in Forest School I often make use of an iPad to assist with plant identification, and there are many times in the woods in the winter when it is very helpful to be able to still use the phone without removing a layer of warmth.
