I went to see Young Guns with my husband who is a huge fan but I will admit I had never heard of the band before, he did tell me I had listened to some of their tracks when he had played them so I was eager to listen to them live.

We arrived at The Haunt in Brighton which was very much made it seemed for young adults and was completely packed out! It isn’t the biggest of venues so I couldn’t see the stage at all but thankful they opened the room above the stage so we could get a better look and it was less cramped.

I was unaware there was going to be a support act before the main act, The Blitz Kids came on stage and were amazing, I had never heard of them before either but I loved all their tracks and they were so interactive with the crowd and the intimate venue felt wonderful to be able to be so close to them and hear them from above.

They even walked past us at one point as they made their way to get a drink, I felt it was wonderful to see a band so at ease with fans and not shy from them.

There was then a 45 minute break between sets which give time to get a drink and use the bathroom, when we arrived the upstairs room was a lot busier, there seemed to be a lot of students there who seemed very happy and having a lot of fun.

Young Guns entered the stage and the room exploded, everyone was screaming so I was looking forward to seeing if this band was as good as they sounded. They said hello to the crowd and then began with I Want Out which I liked they had a sound which sounded slightly like Mumford and Sons and a more heavy band, I did think the lead singer sounded somewhat like David Bowie, which I thought was amazing as I love him!

They were amazing with the crowd and very interactive even with the room above the stage and seemed very pleased to be there which I always think is wonderful, you could tell they loved to be with their fans.

They played a good mix of songs from their past albums which I thought was good and some new hits such as I Want Out and Daylight, the crowd seemed to love them all but did show a big reaction to older tracks such as Stitches and Dearly Departed.

Young Guns credit themselves as being an English alternative rock band and I agree with this I found them a pleasure to listen to, I could hear the lyrics and I really liked their sound. I tend to listen to things like Mumford and Sons and David Bowie so I felt it fitted in with the sound I am used to.

I have also listened to some of their albums since I got home as I tend to like to listen to music in the comfort of my own home and I really like their sound and lyrics, there is a bigger selection of tracks to listen to of course as they can only play so many live, I would totally urge people to buy the albums if they haven’t already.

At £13.50 a ticket you cannot go wrong, I wasn’t overly impressed with the venue and I think it is more suited to students or young adults but the drinks were very cheap and reasonable and I was happy when they opened the room above as it was much less crowded it!

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
