Bigjigs Young Chef’s Baking Set Review
Young Chef’s Baking Set
Reviewed by Emma Baker
Having 3 children there is nothing we love more than to get in the kitchen and bake, what’s better than having the smell of freshly baked cakes and treats filling then house and then eating them?! So when we were asked to try out the Bigjigs Young Chef’s Baking Set (BJ605) we jumped at the chance.
We were more than delighted when we received this little set and had big smiles all round when we saw what was included:
A six-bun baking tray
Cupcake cases
A ramekin
A loaf tin
A mini whisk
A wooden rolling pin,
Six pastry cutters in various shapes
A set of measuring spoons
Even your very own oven glove
Each one of the children argued over who got to wear the oven glove, and my youngest resembled a crab with a giant claw when it was his turn much to everyone’s amusement. We couldn’t wait to get our bake on, 1st up we made cupcakes as we had some friends over to play they helped weigh and measure the ingredients and give it a good stir with the whisk, which was a bit on the small size, the youngest children (2 years) it was perfect for but the others ( 4, 5, 7 and10 year olds) they were more suited to a ‘normal’ sized whisk, but the one provided stood the test of 2 vigorous 2 year olds! the youngest used the 6 bun tray included and filled them with the cake cases, while my 10 year old thought she would be clever and make herself a cake loaf and used the loaf tin. They were all easy to fill and off into the oven they went with the use of the oven glove of course which was red and white and a good size for a child of any age.
While they were cooking we decided to roll out some icing and cut out some shapes using the cutters to decorate the cakes with, this helped passed the time and stopped the ‘are they ready yet?’ Again the rolling pin was on the small size and lightweight so took some rolling to get it to work properly on the icing but with some adult help we soon had some great looking hearts and stars. Just in time… the cakes were cooked and decorated in no time.
All the items were easy to clean and dry, and since receiving them we have made muffins, and lots more cakes. The rolling pin, whisk and loaf tin are all on the small side and may not get used much within the proper kitchen but have had some fun in the toy kitchen and play dough! The measuring spoons were red and plastic and have countless uses and not used for baking but have been used for cooking too!
A great set for any young bakers packed with lots of pieces to give them a great time cooking and baking along side mummy and daddy.
