Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) was just a young boy when his parents mysteriously disappeared late one evening, leaving him in the safe and caring hands of his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). As he grows up, he finds himself with more questions than answers about his parent’s disappearance especially with the discovery of a mysterious briefcase and a file which contains a secret formula. As a result, Peter takes an interest in the work of a research company Oscorp, which specialises in cross-species genetics (the work of his father) lead by scientist Dr Curtis O'Connor (Rhys Ivans). Peter's visit to Oscorp finds him making unique discoveries including that of his new friend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and receiving a spider bite that seems to have extraordinary side effects. As he fights a personal tragedy, Peter must come to terms with his growing capability, his complicated relationships whilst coping with day to day problems at school.
A new spin on the Marvel tales by Stan Lee (who makes a cameo appearance) and a refreshing look at the story of a young boy who finds he must take responsibility for the decisions and actions he makes.
Definitely worth a watch.
