Lego Show Manchester

A LEGO®-tastic event for all the family

In 1932 LEGO® began making toys, 80 years on and the little plastic building bricks have become one of the most successful toys of all time, and one that is loved by generations.

Next month the UK’s largest LEGO® Show will be taking place at EventCity at the Trafford Centre, Manchester from the 5 – 7 May. The show is the ultimate LEGO®weekend for LEGO®fans young and old, making it a great show for all the family.

“The continuing appeal is that LEGO® can be whatever you want it to be.” Said Warren Elsmore, organiser of the LEGO® Show, “If your son wants to build a ship out of it today, he can, and if your granddaughter wants to build a house out of it in 30 years’ time, she’ll still be able to do that. The LEGO® bricks you buy today are still compatible with the bricks you and I had as kids. That’s the wonderful thing about LEGO®, it’s not just for kids, there are lots of adult fans out there too, and I should know as I am one of them!”

This is the show’s first year at EventCity and to celebrate its new home Warren demonstrated his own LEGO® talents, along with his wife Kitty, by building a model of the Trafford Centre and EventCity out of LEGO®.

Warren said; “What better way to showcase our new home than a LEGO model! We are very excited to be holding the LEGO®Show at EventCity. It is a much bigger venue which has given us the space to be even more creative at the show. Its location at the Trafford Centre is fantastic for visitors as there is free parking, and ticket holders can get into the LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre for just £5 during the weekend. So it’s great value for LEGO®loving families!”

Throughout the show visitors will be able take part in a series of special building workshops, or try the massive play area to build their own creations! and have the chance to meet real LEGO® Designers & see what they like to build when they're not at work! The LEGO® Show is the only show in the country to feature LEGO® designers direct from Denmark and LEGO® certified professionals.

There is also a LEGO® cinema, a LEGO® museum and amazingcreationsbuilt by Adult Fans of LEGO® from all over Europe! So there is a lot to see and do.

Visitors to the show will also get the chance to be part of a World Record as the show attempts to break the record for the largest ever built LEGO® mosaic.

The record, officially entitled ‘the largest image built with interlocking plastic bricks’, currently stands at 112m2. To break the record the show is attempting to make a 143m2 image containing approximately 550,000 LEGO® bricks.  To complete the mosaic, the show will need at least 2,000 members of the public to help by building a mosaic square.

Warren Elsmore, show director, said: “We are really excited about this world record attempt, and it will be fantastic to get the everyone involved. We’ve only got three days to complete a mosaic of over half a million bricks, so we really need the help!”

The Show has also enlisted the help of a few celebrities to complete the mosaic; Star of Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Big Bang Theory Wil Wheaton, C4 Sunday Brunch presenter Tim Lovejoy and former Olympic athlete and TV personality Iwan Thomas MBE. Each of the celebrities will be making a LEGO® square prior to the show. The squares will be added to the mosaic by organisers during the 3 day show at EventCity, Manchester.

The squares will be signed by each of the stars and auctioned off after the event in aid of Key 103’s Cash for Kids charity, who the LEGO® Show will be supporting throughout the event.

Visitors to the LEGO Show will be able to support Cash for Kids by donating a LEGO® minifigure. The donated minifigures will be included in the shows flagship model, details of which are still to be announced.

The LEGO® Show2012 takes place at EventCity from 5 – 7 May. Tickets are now on sale and a family can save £10 by buying their ticket in advance.
