My children are very creative so we were keen to review the Aqua Beads Ocean Splash Scene. They’ve all played with Aqua Beads before and seem to enjoy the creative process as well as finding it relaxing and with a relatively rapid turnaround for a product they can walk away with soon after making. This kit offers a gentle fusion of crafting and imaginative opportunities for children of all ages.

This product was well packaged for the post in a robust cardboard box which is always good as you can be sure the product will arrive in giftable condition. The packaging of the product itself is a decent cardboard package with plenty of colour to lure the creatives in. On receiving the product, I was immediately impressed by the vibrant array of colours and all handily separated out and ready to go. Inside the box there’s a decent assortment of beads, a design tray, templates, and a spray bottle – everything needed to embark on a crafting journey.

Crafting with Aqua Beads proved to be a relaxed and satisfying experience. The beads are conveniently handy in the crafting trays sorting areas helping to keep even little fingers quite organised. The templates make the design easy and the image soon begins to take shape. It does take a little concentration but it’s quite meditative overall.

One of the things I like about Aqua Beads is that for some children there is no parental involvement required. There’s no heat or glue to bond the beads, instead the water spray does the job and it’s a small misting bottle with no fear of flooding the house. This means children can be more independent in their play, a bonus for their development and a peaceful time for parents. The achievement is all that of the crafter. The water spray binds the beads together and only needs some drying time to retain a solid structure.

This kit is sweetly detailed with underwater creatures to create and the guidance to do so at a great standard. However there’s also scope for free play and broader creativity which is always a plus. I like that some of the beads are differently textured too, which increases the options for presentation and diversity in play.

There’s a lot to be said for this as a developmental toy as well, increasing dexterity and fine motor skills, as a craft alone or with someone else, away from a screen and with an achievable outcome. Perfect for rainy days and winter evenings. This is the kind of thing I’d buy as a gift too; I can’t imagine many children could resist having a go. At 19.99 it’s a reasonable gift and I believe top up beads are easily available to enable children to keep reusing the kit or to build on it with other styles and beads. It doesn’t have to be a one-sitting craft and I like that too.

It’s something my children will return to again and again so I think this is good value for money.
