Yankee Candle WoodWick Forest Retreat Trilogy Candle Review

Reviewed by Sharon Mongey

Yankee Candle have a great range of WoodWick candles with a vast variety of scents. It was my delight to be able to sample the Forest Retreat Trilogy edition.

The original candles were created in 2006 the brand being launched with 12 core fragrances, the WoodWick Trilogy candles were later realised in 2010, giving us 3 distinct colours and aromas.

On first impression it is an impressive looking candle, standing quite tall at 16.5cm, (this candle would fall in the larger category) the candle is encased in a clear hour glass jar and has a smooth wooden lid adorned on top, an easy peel label attached that can be easily removed if giving the candle for a gift. On opening I found that there are clear user instructions printed on the underside of the wooden lid, how to take care and get the most of your candle, how long to burn at a time and how to look after the wick.

For best results you should burn the candle for between three and four hours per use and you should trim the wick to 1/8th before each use.

The candle is a trilogy, so you have three colours and three different scents.

  • First, we have Redwood; this scent combines rich redwood with sandalwood and soft amber.
  • Next, we have Amber and Incense, rich amber and sandalwood with undertones of exotic spices and herbs.
  • Finally, the last of the trilogy is Palo Santo, Palo Santo woods entwined with spiced cloves and musky undertones.

I’m a real candle fan, in fact, who doesn’t love a candle, especially at Christmas. You could smell the aroma before the candle was even lit and then once lit this candle gave off an aroma that honestly made my home feel warmer, cosier and more inviting.

A great little flame appeared once lit and the gentle crackle sound started after a few minutes, it wasn’t a loud sound but I did have some background noise so I did have to listen carefully to hear the crackle. I moved the candle to an area that I could appreciate it more and once the candle had been burning a little longer the sound increased, this continued to increase as the wax on the top layer started to melt, with this melting the aroma and scent also grew with the scent travelling up the staircase. I have left the candle burning for several hours and the aroma continued to smell great, bringing the outdoors in would be a good way to describe it. The candle hardly looked like it had been used so I would say that you would also get great value for money with the candle lasting a long time.

I really liked this candle, it’s not the sound of a roaring fire and nor should it be expected to be so, but a really gentle crackle sound and a beautiful aroma.

This would make a fantastic Christmas gift or a great treat for yourself if you are like me a candle lover.
