Despite all the electronic options now available I will always use a paper calendar, actually writing things down somehow feels safer to me. I am always worried that an electronic malfunction will wipe off all my information, plus it is so much easier to share with all the family. A calendar has always been a feature on our kitchen wall, all the family use it either to check what we are up to or when we are going to be away. Sometimes to add their own things to it, like reminders for babysitting dates or taxi services, don’t expect us to remember your birthday if it’s not written on the calendar! The thrill of turning the page over on the first day of the month to see what the new picture is never gets old for me.
The “Wild Nature” calendar is produced in partnership with the John Muir trust and is edited by the renowned nature photographer and adventurer John Beatty. It is printed on very high quality paper made from responsible sources with twelve images from award winning photographers showing the wild beauty of nature throughout the year and features pictures from all over the country. They are a mixture of animal close ups and the most spectacular scenery, which represent the title “Wild Nature” perfectly. Each imagine creates a strong connection with nature, and reinforces the message that we must protect it.

I’m always drawn to pictures of sunsets and there is a fabulous one in this calendar, it’s for February so not too long to wait to see this on the kitchen wall. Each picture has a few lines of explanation and nature notes written besides it and an outline map pin pointing the area the photo was taken. Although I use my calendar in the kitchen, the images in this one are so lovely they would be equally suitable for a study or sitting area.
The calendar is 300mm x 300mm with a strong stitched spine it hangs vertically in a clear easy to use month per page format, exactly the type I like to use, with plenty of space to write notes on each day. Significant days like earth day, bank holidays and moon phases are highlighted on the relevant month.
Founded in 1983 the John Muir trust is a conservation charity and a leading voice for wild places in the United Kingdom they are committed to protecting wild places for everyone. There is a very interesting message at the front of the calendar from the chair of the trust which explains more. You can also find out more about the trust and John Muir from johnmuirtrust.org.
