About Last Night starring comedian Kevin Hart is a remake of the 1986 original film of the same name and based on the David Mamet play Sexual Perversity in Chicago. It follows the lives of 4 singles who are best friends and what happens when they start dating.
Bernie (Kevin Hart) and Danny (Michael Ealy) are best friends. Bernie is dating Joan (Regina Hall) and they have a fiery relationship, both are so passionate about everything they only seem to be truly happy when verbally aggressive towards each other.
Danny hasn’t been on a date since his long term relationship ended so Bernie sets him up with Debbie (Joy Bryant), who is Joan’s roommate and best friend.
Things are al okay under Danny are Debbie start to get serious and then the sparks fly.
Overall, this is not a typical Hollywood romantic comedy and if you are expecting a lot of comedy I don’t think you will find it in this film. Bernie has an aggressive personality which is vulgar and crude but is a loveable character but unfortunately the comedic value is sadly missing. There are some humorous moments but the relationship between Danny and Debbie and boring and petty. The problems may seem more lifelike and what a lot of couples go through but it doesn’t fit in with what is supposed to a rom-com.
In my opinion this is a very lacklustre and tired remake, maybe I expected more funnier moments from Kevin Hart.
