Vienna Festival Ballet Cinderella at the Grove Theatre Dunstable Review

Reviewed by Amanda Browne
We visited the Grove in Dunstable on Sunday 30 April 2017 to see Cinderella performed by the Vienna Festival Ballet. The theatre was full and I was surprised at how many small children were in the audience. We took to our seats unsure what to expect. I am intrigued by the ballet. This is my third try at ballet and I was still unsure if it’s for me. If I had seen this first I would have instantly fallen in love with ballet. It was amazing. We were captivated from start to finish. For an audience filled with little people you didn’t hear a peep from them, there was I imagine many a would be ballerina watching and dreaming it was them.
It was made easier knowing the story of Cinderella, however the dancer’s faces were so expressive, no words were needed. The costumes were truly beautiful for the ladies especially, and Cinderella’s dress was stunning for the ball. The opulent white with gold tutu’s worn for the finale were amazing. The dancers were so light on their feet and gracefully moved around the stage. They all had such presence. The Ugly Sisters were very comical and were portrayed very well. They raised a fair few giggles from us all with their antics.
I was completely mesmerised from start to finish, the show went in a blink of eye. It was a beautiful show and I would recommend to anyone that enjoys the story of Cinderella to watch it, I most certainly would love to see their Swan Lake which along with Cinderella they are performing in May and June across the country, in October and November they are performing the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty, I’m going to get my tickets now!
It was a delightful way to spend a few hours, I loved it.
