The Expendables are back in this action packed sequel.

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) is the leader of a group of mercenaries each with their own special talent: Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) – Knife Expert, Yin Yang (Jet Li) – Hand to Hand Combat Expert, Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren) – Unstable Chemical Engineer, Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) – Barrel-weapons Expert, Toll Road (Randy Couture) – Demolition Expert and the newest member of the team Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) – Sniper.

After rescuing a Chinese billionaire and Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from Nepal and escorting him back to China they are forced to accept a new mission from CIA man Church (Bruce Willis). This is supposed to be a simple retrieval mission to collect the contents of a safe from a plane shot down in Albania, the only catch is they have to take Maggie (Yu Nan) along. Things are never simple and when one of their team is killed by Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme) this means war! Their mission is now to TRACK! FIND! KILL! And all before Vilain can change the balance of world power using the contents of the safe he has stolen from The Expendables.

Overall, The Expendables 2 is fast-paced, action-packed and violent right from the start. I found it to be a much better story than the first one and the comradery between the characters is much better with them always poking fun at each other. The film is littered with cheesy one-liners and old movie references but these provided the humour and are as great as they are cheesy – my favourite being when Arnie and Bruce Willis are together Arnie states that he is out of bullets and says “he will be back”, Bruce turns to him and says “you’ve been back enough, I’ll be back!” and Arnie replies “Yippee ki yay!” – very cheesy but works. This is just one of many. And with Booker (Chuck Norris) popping up now and again to help them out it is a great film.

I usually find sequels not as good but this is much better than the first one and I would recommend watching it. Great action, good story and light humour packed with action film stars. Highly entertaining.
